Our own Advanced Master Gardener Rachel Ziesk will be giving a free workshop this Saturday, August 29th on Preserving your garden harvest and planting fall crops. The workshop will be held at the Neighborhood Housing Services at 333 Sherman Ave (off Whalley) from 10am - Noon. It's free! Though donations are welcome.

If you're growing garlic now is the time to take off most of the mulch from the winter. As you can see, some of the garlic looks a bit yellow, but it will green up in a few days. Need to let those leaves get the sun to bring energy to making big bulbs. Leave about 1/2 an inch of mulch on, garlic doesn't like to compete with weeds. Don't forget to feed your garlic, it's a heavy feeder, like a fertilizer high in nitrogen.

Finally! The ground is unfrozen and we're starting to plant.. Peas, lettuce, spinach, kale, onion, tatsoi.. all the in the ground today. As long as the soil is unfrozen, you can plant cold lovers. We're 2+ weeks later than usual, but at least we're getting going now!
