My wife and I recently adopted a puppy from a rescue group. He is a lot of fun, but I had forgotten how challenging the first few weeks are with housetraining. I have given thousands of people advice on how to do it - now it is my turn. His name is Oscar, and he is 4 months old.

CT Department of Agriculture has found Avian Influenza in 3 back yard flocks of chickens. As you know some people have gotten the infection - usually from dairy cows. If you find a dead bird outside, do not handle it without gloves on. The disease has also been found in cats and can be a serious disease in them. As far as I know, no cases in felines in our state have been reported yet.

On Sunday I had to make the decision to euthanize Finn my beloved Labrador. It is very hard for any of us to make that decision. Finn had a great life. He ran, he swam, he ate anything he could, and he was a therapy dog at Yale Hospital for 4+ years. I will miss him terribly.
