Yale Community Forest Garden

Yale Community Forest Garden We're working together to cultivate a space that is educational, ecological, and edible! Welcome to the Yale Community Forest Garden!

Our beautiful space is located in the courtyard between Kroon and Sage Hall. Over time, the garden will grow to yield delicious perennial foods and medicines for our community to enjoy, provide wildlife and insect habitat, and harness flows of energy to make it largely self-sustaining. There are lots of ways to get involved! Stay on the lookout for events, and please feel free to email questions, ideas, and inspiration to [email protected]

Did you hear the amazing thunderstorm last night? Our shiitakes did! Thunderstorms are natural stimulants for mushroom growth, and it’s definitely showing in the forest garden today. What a delicious reminder that we live in an interconnected universe!

Holy Shiitake! These babies just sprouted from our multifunctional mushroom path.

The white oak (Q. alba) logs were sourced from the Yale Myers forest and were inoculated during a fun workshop in the Spring co-led by Emma Greenbaum, Liz Felker and Schmemily Figman. We are super excited to see that the logs were able to sprout on the ground, even though they are conventionally stacked. This was a pilot experiment that will now be expanded next spring!
