It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our founder, our mentor, and our dear friend, Dr. Cary Brenner, on Thursday, September 18th.

The veterinary field has lost a giant. Dr. Brenner’s dedication, expertise, and unwavering compassion were only part of the man he was. To us, he was family—our “old man” with the dad jokes, the one who never forgot a birthday or a story, the one who always picked up the phone no matter what.

He came in on his days off to perform emergency surgeries, and he had a way of convincing staff to adopt animals in need (and more than a few found their forever homes because of him). His kindness, his humor, and his steady presence touched every corner of our practice.

Dr. Brenner was truly one of a kind—the cornerstone of who we are today. Our hearts are broken, and we ask for your patience and grace as we mourn the loss of our friend.

🎉 Happy Birthday, Dr. Cary Brenner! 🎉

Today we celebrate not just another year, but the incredible legacy of one of Fieldstone Veterinary Care’s founding members and most cherished veterinarians — Dr. Cary Brenner.

For almost 30 years, Dr. Brenner has been an integral part of the Fieldstone family, shaping the heart of our practice with his compassion, knowledge, and dedication. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island (BS in Zoology) and Iowa State University (DVM, 1982), Dr. Brenner has been practicing veterinary medicine in Connecticut since 1983. His passion for diagnostic ultrasound and internal medicine has elevated the standard of care for countless patients — both at Fieldstone and through his work with Veterinary Multi-imaging, eVet Diagnostics, and as the longtime primary veterinarian for Danbury Animal Welfare Society, DAWS.

Beyond the surgery room, Dr. Brenner is a devoted family man and proud pet parent to mixed breed, Annie— and he’s always up for a good Jimmy Buffett tune, especially when surrounded by his wife and five wonderful children.

Dr. Brenner, thank you for your decades of service, your unmatched mentorship, and your unwavering kindness. We are beyond lucky to call you colleague, founder, and friend.

🎂 Please join us in wishing Dr. Brenner a very happy birthday! 🎂

✨ Twelve years young, and still stealing hearts. ✨

🐾💙 The Evolution of Care 💙🐾

Meet Harley — a beautiful 12-year-old young boy whose heart is just as big as his fluffy paws. From the moment he was helped up on the exam table, Veterinary Assistant Kyle was right there, offering reassurance, gentle words, and plenty of hugs.

These moments capture what care really looks like at Fieldstone:

🤗 A calming embrace to ease nerves
🐾 Gentle restraint to keep him safe and comfortable
💓 Quiet comfort that builds trust
🐶 That unspoken bond between caregiver and patient

Because here, it’s never “just an exam.” It’s making sure every patient — no matter their age — feels safe, loved, and understood from start to finish.

🚨 Rabies Alert🚨

According to the WFSB Eyewitness News report published on July 29, 2025, three bats in New Fairfield have tested positive for rabies—a significantly higher total than seen in past years

🐾 Important Information for Pet Owners:
The town health director has stressed that this year’s rabies detections are higher than usual.

Do not handle bats or any wild animals.

If a bat appears in your home, contact a nuisance wildlife control officer—they have the proper tools and training for safe removal and testing.

Ensure your pets’ rabies vaccinations are current. Connecticut law mandates up-to-date rabies shots for dogs; cats are strongly recommended as well.

If you or your pet had any potential exposure—ever been near a bat indoors, bitten, scratched, or unsure—seek medical and veterinary guidance immediately, asking about rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).

🏥 How Fieldstone Veterinary Care Can Help:
We provide rabies vaccinations for all eligible pets.

Our team is available for risk assessment and consultation if exposure is suspected.

We can assist in safely coordinating with animal control and public health officials, and guide you through quarantine procedures if needed.

📞 Please call Fieldstone Veterinary Care at 203-746-5555 to schedule a vaccine appointment, discuss exposure concerns, or get guidance. Feel free to message us directly here too.

✅ Stay Safe — Here’s What You Can Do:

Vaccinate all animals, including indoor-only cats!

Remove attractants from your property—don’t leave out bird seed or pet food that might draw wildlife.

Teach children to stay away from bats and unfamiliar animals.

Report any animal bite or close contact to your health department promptly.

We're committed to keeping your family—two- or four-legged—protected. Stay informed, vigilant, and vaccinated.

🔥 HEATWAVE ALERT: PROTECT YOUR PETS! 🔥
Connecticut is in the middle of a serious heatwave, and our furry friends feel the heat even more than we do. 🐾☀️

Here are some critical safety tips to keep your pets safe:

🐶 Never leave pets in a parked car — even for a minute! Temperatures can reach 120°F in minutes and can be fatal.
💧 Hydration is key — keep fresh, cool water available at all times.
🌳 Walk early or late — Avoid midday walks; hot pavement can burn paw pads. If you can’t touch it comfortably with your hand, it’s too hot for your pet!
🏡 Keep them indoors — Provide a cool, shaded space or keep them inside with AC or fans.
🐕‍🦺 Watch for signs of heatstroke — excessive panting, lethargy, drooling, vomiting, or collapse. Contact us immediately if you notice these!

❤️ Pets rely on us — let's keep them cool, safe, and comfortable.

If you're unsure whether your pet is handling the heat well, don’t wait. Call us — we’re here to help!
