Meet our Featured Pet, Stella!

Stella is a sweet 3-year-old French Bulldog that we have had the pleasure of knowing since puppyhood! She was born with a recessed v***a which is a condition where the v***a is partially or completely hidden by surrounding skin folds. In most dogs, this abnormality can lead to recurrent urinary tract infections or infections within the skin folds around the v***a, Stella had a history of both. Attempting to manage this issue with various treatments and medications showed no success, so a surgical procedure called a Vulvoplasty was recommended to reshape the v***a to improve airflow and hygiene. Essentially, the surgery would provide Stella with much-needed relief and prevent future infections by ensuring that her v***a would no longer trap moisture and bacteria.

Stella’s loving owners elected to move forward with the surgery which was relatively straightforward and performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Correll carefully reshaped the tissue around her v***a to restore a more natural form and improve its functionality. The procedure was a success, and Stella woke up groggy but calm, surrounded by our caring team who had taken every step to ensure her safety.

The healing process was gradual. Following surgery, Stella experienced inflammation of the colon, which led to loose stools that made it challenging to keep her surgical site clean. Stella’s amazing owners were incredibly diligent with her wound care and adherence to the prescribed medication schedule and she recovered well. Stella’s joyful, energetic personality quickly returned, and she was soon back to bossing around her brother Rocco!

Its Feline Leukemia Day. Let’s learn more about this serious and often misunderstood disease affecting our beloved cats. FeLV is a contagious virus that weakens a cat's immune system, making them more susceptible to infections and other illnesses.

What You Need to Know:

Transmission: FeLV spreads through close contact between cats, including grooming, sharing food or water bowls, and bite wounds.

Symptoms: Common signs include lethargy, weight loss, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and recurring infections. Some cats may not show symptoms immediately but can still spread the virus.

Prevention:
Vaccination: Ensure your cat is vaccinated against FeLV, especially if they go outdoors or live in multi-cat households.

Testing: Regularly test your cat for FeLV, particularly if they are exposed to other cats.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our feline companions. Let’s work towards a future where every cat can live a happy, healthy life free from Feline Leukemia.

Keeping your hamster or gerbil happy and healthy involves more than just a comfy cage and nutritious food. Enrichment activities are key to their well-being! Here are some tips to keep your small pets engaged and stimulated:

-Variety of Toys: Offer a mix of chew toys, tunnels, and climbing structures to keep them entertained.
-Exercise Wheels: Ensure they have access to a solid surface wheel to run on. Avoid wire wheels to prevent injury.
-Hide and Seek: Create hiding spots using small boxes or tunnels to satisfy their natural burrowing instincts.
-Interactive Feeding: Use treat balls or scatter their food around the enclosure to encourage foraging behaviors.
-Sand Baths: Provide a small container of sand for them to roll in and keep their fur clean.
Safe Chews: Offer wooden chews or mineral blocks to help keep their teeth in check.
-Regularly rotate toys and accessories to keep things fresh and interesting. Your furry friends will thank you with their happy, active behavior! 🐾❤️
