Straight off dental/vet day on Friday to farrier day on Saturday. The fun just never stops. 🤣🤣
All the horses were on their best behavior, even through the insane winds.
🦷Dental day🦷.
Today, 7 of our horses were seen by the dentist. PGF and Magic had their recheck from their January visit and both are doing great. PGF had a filling placed in January and it has held. Magic’s teeth have done nicely since we’ve taken him off whatever feed he was on that gave him all the cavities. He had good tooth eruption and the teeth are growing out healthy. 🎉🎉. Liberty and Amigo had their first floats with us and amigo is fine, Liberty had an issue that we will treat and do a follow up if needed, Rue, our locked jaw horse was found to have a really ugly fistula that was likely the cause of her snotty nose. Dr Burney found this by video/camera as she still cannot fully open her mouth. She’s doing great on the total equine so we might just have another horse on no hay and a special feed. We’ll get her rechecked in two months as we were able to slightly open her mouth more today. Goose just got his annual and all was fine. 🎉 and lil cutie got her fist dental visit in 2.5 years of her life. She’s the cutest little mini and did well. She needed the float badly. All in all, it was a good vet visit. We also vaccinated and microchipped amigo, liberty and Rue, collected fecals and the geldings had their sheaths cleaned. We’re done and exhausted. 🥱
⚠️⚠️Warning-Graphic Procedure⚠️⚠️. Today we performed a sinus flush on Rue. She had been on antibiotics and yet the discharge from her right nostril remained. It is possible that she may need another flush but we are hopeful this is a one and done. There’s no telling how long this has been an issue for her. We are doing all we can to address all of her issues. She’s a fighter, well get through it. We have to.
Farrier day completed yesterday. Our newbies Amigo, Liberty and Rue were done this round. They all did good. ❤️
We have a new horse. My heart can’t take much more of this egregious neglect. This horse here was $30 at our local auction. That’s not much because honestly, she isn’t worth much in her current state right now. She is 20 years old. Her birthdate is 02/03/2005. She’s skinny and my good lord did she stink. Yes, stink, like you could smell the foul odor coming from her mouth long before you ever got to her kind of stink. Regardless of this wafting of odor, I kept approaching and I flipped her lip and she has a perfectly legible tattoo. (More on that later) I went ahead and fished around in her mouth to see if I could find the source of this smell. Inside her cheek, between her teeth and cheek wall was a glob of unknown material. I pulled it and slowly guided it out. It was like unblocking a sewer damn. A foul syrupy type of liquid poured from her mouth, the odor super charged now apparently. About took me to my knees. I did what I could to get all of it out. Bless my son Chance for sticking it out and holding her while I did this. She also has an old eye lid injury that was left to its own devices and began to grow abnormally, lashes and all. It looked like a fat tick with sorrel eyelashes, blocking some of her vision, I am sure. She’s been neglected. She was turned loose or escaped from whatever hell she was in and was “arrested” in Hays County. Obviously, no one would come for her and be held accountable for the horrible condition she was in, so she was abandoned. The law says she must go through auction. I may not like it, but I can’t change it. I was, however, notified of her and her need of immediate help and agreed to purchase her for a legitimate sale. The LEO and the auction house both cared enough about this mare’s wellbeing to notify me in advance so I could get everything needed to get her care plan lined up. She is a thoroughbred. She is tattoo’d and I was able to identify her as R C’s Delight. She has a poo
❤️🩹Liberty❤️🩹. A little bit of a long video, but it’s of Liberty. She played and played in the arena area. She was happy. She is able to move about just fine. So long as she keeps feeling good and doing good, we’ll keep right along with her. Her first days seemed gloomy, but she’s turning around. She is eating and drinking well. Slowly adding the spark back in her. Keep healing Liberty. We’ve got all the time you need. ❤️
A little over a week ago I was contacted to help a horse that had been found roaming estray and no one came for him. 🥺. He was in jail with our county sheriffs office. I scheduled an appointment with our vet, and Jeanna and I and Dr. T met at the holding facility to draw his Coggins. We were allowed to pick him up today. We are calling him amigo. He is an estimated 20 yo gelding. He is as sweet as the day is long. Aside from being malnourished and some pretty bad scars on his “ankles”, he seems fine. Welcome Amigo to HBCH.
💔Rant ahead💔 for the love of all things holy, please humans do better! I was notified about this horse literally as she was going through the auction ring. I was told she was poor and seemed blind in one eye. I, with nothing more than one lot pic, asked my contact to bid on her. I lost the bid…. I figured the person who got her didn’t have the best of intentions for her. , so I asked if they would transfer her to me and I’d pay what their high bid was. I was countered, pay the bail plus $50. So I did. Once I was able to get more pictures of her, I became suspicious of DSLD. We saved a one eyed blind, incredibly thin mare with DSLD. Where are her humans that watched all this deteriorating and did NOTHING. She was hauled to auction to squeeze the last few dollars from her. It’s maddening and sickening. We will do what we can for as long as we can. I’ll find some solice that she wont be shipped on to another auction or worse. Today we welcome former tag #433, who we now call Liberty. Many thanks to Larry and Jeanna for picking her up today and getting her settled. $300 bail and a $50 up charge to get her safe. So disappointed in humans today. 🥺
Suzy Q, Scarlett’s legacy survivor, happily adopted along with another HBCH horse, Monita with their herd.
What a great update. ❤️❤️
❤️Magicisthemoonlite❤️ We have great news, good news and some moderately bad news. The great news: he graduated out of quarantine with no sickness. The good news: the bone structure of his right front leg is appearing normal. He does have a bowed tendon, which was reported to me by his former owners. He was in workout on 10/27/24 when he took a misstep and hurt the tendon again. We may always have the puffy appearance. We will begin Magnawave and LZR treatments on him. The moderately bad news is the condition his teeth are in, the abrasions he has on his cheeks due to super sharp points in his mouth and an ulcer on his tongue. He is diagnosed with peripheral caries, which is a condition our vet doesn’t see much. It’s typically caused from way too sugary feed, even sugar cane. The hope is now that he’s not being fed all the sugars, as his teeth grow out, they will erupt healthy. He basically has so many cavities, his teeth feel like moth balls. The cavities have eaten around the outside of his teeth, creating gaps for food to get trapped. We will follow up in 2 months. We’ve made some progress in 30 days, but I feel he’ll really start to blossom now. ❤️
