Finn Performance Horses

Rarely does anyone ever attend a horse show where they can’t find something to complain about or an area that needs improving. That is not the case for the Stock Horse of Texas. Show after show they do a phenomenal job putting on fun, friendly, and efficient shows. The 2025 Sweetwater Show was yet another great show. It’s made even better by the amazing group of horses and riders we have that attend with us. At home they put in the work and practice, and the results at shows speak for themselves. Congratulations everyone! FPH had at least one win in each of the four SHTX classes, and several horse & rider pairs had their best runs to date.

Thankfully everything at the barn is okay, we’re just wet outside. This rain has been very destructive to those north and west of us in Texas

We do not have extra dry space at our facility to accommodate evacuees but we do know places that have some if any horses, livestock, or other critters are in need. Reach out and we can help connect you or transport if needed.

It’s been a long few days getting caught back up after the most recent show, but that doesn’t change what a blast we had at The Gathering at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK for the most recent Stock Horse of Texas show.

We had a much smaller group than normal but our riders continued to impress us with their hard work and showmanship. Everyone stepped up their game and it showed. Our new riders have even moved their way up to the high scores! As always, we are so incredibly proud of you and your horses, and grateful to the Stock Horse of Texas for putting on such fabulous shows.

Another horse show in the books, and the Stock Horse of Texas Hamilton show was another good one.

A few shows into the 2025 season with Finn Performance Horses, and we couldn’t be more proud—or more grateful—for the incredible animals that carry us through this journey.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the pursuit of flawless runs, clean maneuvers, and bringing home ribbons that we sometimes forget the bigger picture. We are guilty of it too. We forget just how lucky we are to even be at a horse show—let alone partnered with a horse talented enough to lay down a nice run.

These horses owe us absolutely nothing. And yet, they give us everything. We get the satisfaction of watching a video of a great run we did or admiring a beautiful shot from the show photographer. But the horses? They don’t get fulfillment from seeing a plus maneuver on the scorecard or pride from saving us when we fumble a cue or let nerves creep in.

Still—they show up for us. Again and again.

They load in the trailer, haul to unfamiliar arenas, practice the same maneuvers with us over and over, and then step into the show pen and give it their all under the lights, in front of the crowd. Not for ribbons. Not for praise. But for us.

And wow—do they ever deliver.

It’s humbling. It’s inspiring. And it’s something we never want to take for granted.

We are so incredibly lucky to do what we do, with horses like these.

Everyone thinks they have the greatest horse. And everyone is right.

While the heart of Finn Performance Horses lies in the incredible horses we’re privileged to work with, their success wouldn’t be possible without an entire team of dedicated professionals working behind the scenes.

First and foremost, Chano, our phenomenal caretaker, shows up every single day—rain or shine, win or lose. He knows each horse like the back of his hand, adapting to their needs with patience, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to their wellbeing. The horses trust him deeply, and it shows. How lucky our horses are to be under your care.

It takes more than just daily caretaking to be a successful show horse. Frequently one of the first to be blamed for issues and last to be thanked when it goes well, we often take for granted the farriers that keep our horses sound and able to perform their best. Our farriers— Jay Finn, Brandon Rogers Ctf of Sturdy Oak Forge & Farrier, and Evan Campbell of Bent River Forge & Farrier, are true masters of their craft. Often underappreciated, they are absolutely essential. Without your expertise and work our horses wouldn’t be able to track around the arena beautifully or excel in their maneuvers.

The horses need more than just their belly’s full and their feet right for them to thrive. Their whole body is brought into play with what we ask of them, and their bodies are kept feeling their best thanks to several skilled equine practitioners. Chiropractor Kenny Meeks, Magnwave Practioner Melissa Underwood of Underwood Performance Solutions, and Magnwave Practioner & Bodyworker Veronica Harz of Harz Performance Horses and Wellness, keep our horses comfortable and able to withstand the rigors of training and competition. Your skilled hands keep our horses comfortable and competition ready. What we ask of these athletes is no small feat- and your work ensures they can give us their all, day in and day out.

When more serious issues arise FPH horses are lucky to have access to Trailmark Equine Clinic and Dr Livingston. One appointment with this skilled performance & lameness veterinarian can achieve more than we would in a month of training. Although we do not have to frequent you often, your dedication to our horses’ wellbeing does not get forgotten and the pivotal roll you play.

Our equine dentist, Sage Rew, is another essential part of the puzzle. Without healthy mouths, our horses can’t stay soft, responsive, or happy, and our hours logged training would be mute. Thank you for your meticulous work.

Of course, nutrition plays a massive role, and we’re lucky to fuel our horses with ALFA FORCE Equine Feeds. Your feed keeps our athletes powered, healthy, and ready to perform. Part of being a successful show horse is looking the part and your feed allows our horses to do that.

There’s more than just what we put in our horse’s body that matters. What we put on them is just as important, and we have Amy Robinson of Bit Perfect Tack to thank for that. They provide us with the gear we need both in training and shows. Without them our horses would not be protected and stylish in the show pen.

A special shoutout to one who is often not seen or heard but is always there, our assistant Nicola Stewart. From behind-the-scenes logistics to hands-on horse care, you do it all—and do it well. We’re so lucky to have your eyes and energy on our team.

And finally—to the owners who trust us with their amazing animals: thank you. None of this would happen without you and your horses.

The first of the 2025 Stock Horse of Texas horse shows is in the books. FPH had a great time at the Bryan Kick Off Classic. We had wins in reining, cow, pleasure, and trail!

Everyone did so well and worked so hard. We are so proud of you and your horses.

A huge thank you goes out to Stock Horse of Texas for putting on such great horse shows. They are so incredibly organized and well run that, despite having over 40 runs from our riders on Saturday alone, we always knew where and when we would need to be somewhere. The courses, footing, and cows were all great. If you’ve been on the fence about showing SHTX- just do it! You won’t regret it.

Another massive thank you goes out to Nicola Stewart. We absolutely could not have done this without you and all your hard work and help. You had a hand in all of these success that our riders had.

What a phenomenal photo of our youth rider from this weekend’s show!

A massive thank you goes out to the Lavaca Ranch/Reined Cow Horse Show for putting on a great show. We are so lucky to now have an association in our area that provides NRCHA classes as well as herd work and ranch events.

Despite the frigid temperatures the first day everyone had so much fun.

If you’re wanting to try cow horse or ranch events but don’t know how to start- here’s your way in! This was the first of several shows they will be hosting this year. If you feel like you need help reach out to us and you can join our group or we can point you in the direction of & get you in contact with several other talented trainers who attend that you could also work with.
