In honor of Black History Month, we'd like you to learn about a little unknown figure in US Mycology: Thelma Perry.

She devoted many years as a Laboratory Biologist for the US Forestry Service. With a focus on microscopic fungi found within the barks of pine trees and it's mutualistic relationship with certain species of beetles. In 2021, a newly discovered fungus was named in her honor: Entomocorticium perryae.

Upgrades were made this month! 🙌

What you are looking at is a crucial part of the mushroom farming process! The strange looking white square is called a 'flowhood' and it's purpose is to blow a steady stream of 99.97% sterile air over the workspace.

Why? 🤔
Doing open air transfers and inoculations can introduce unwanted passengers into our sterilized or pasteurized growth mediums. Such as other fungi or bacteria. Which in turn decreases our farm's yields and wastes our resources. With this upgrade we now have over twice the sterile workspace! Decreasing the likelihood one of those unwanted passengers will make it where we don't want them.
