In honor of Black History Month, we'd like you to learn about a little unknown figure in US Mycology: Thelma Perry.
She devoted many years as a Laboratory Biologist for the US Forestry Service. With a focus on microscopic fungi found within the barks of pine trees and it's mutualistic relationship with certain species of beetles. In 2021, a newly discovered fungus was named in her honor: Entomocorticium perryae.
