To reserve a campsite: realize that Recreation.gov will sometimes show the camp is full when it isn't, or say that t
he website isn't available. If you wish to reserve a camp site and the website says it's full, CALL them Toll Free 1-877-444-6777, and if they tell you no sites are available, CALL direct Tahoe National Forest Nevada City office (530) 265-4531 or Camptonville Station (530) 288-3231. Yes, there are some walk-in campsites set aside, no reservations needed! There is NO cell service in camp. Skillman Horse Camp opens for the season late May. Established and maintained by the Gold Country Trails Council and managed by the Tahoe National Forest. MANURE REMOVAL POLICY for Skillman Horse Camp: Gold Country Trails Council funds a separate, additional manure dumpster starting in May. The regular Forest Service garbage dumpster is by the entry gate. The GCTC manure dumpster is closer to the horse pens, you can use either for bagged and unbagged manure. Tip: bring old feed bags and fill those. PLEASE use the GCTC dumpster first, and if full, put your bags of manure in the Forest Service dumpster. Do NOT put bags of manure next to, or on top of, the dumpsters or Waste Management won't pick it up AT ALL. Do NOT spread manure to the bushes. Do NOT leave manure in the corrals. It is very rare that both dumpsters are full, but if they are, take your manure home with you. THANK YOU TO GOLD COUNTRY TRAILS COUNCIL for funding and providing for the dumpster! http://www.goldcountrytrailscouncil.org/donations.html
