Our beloved Watson has been given the 2nd chance of a lifetime. Brought back to the shelter in rough condition, some cuddles and an awesome haircut breathed new life into this boy. And just like magic, adopters came along that seem like a match made in heaven. We're so relieved that Watson will now get the chance to thrive in his new home!

Thank you for all the donations lately! We appreciate your continued support.

Introcing GORDY!

Gordy is a playful young dog. Although he still has a gleeful puppy personality, we think his size has maxed out at around 31 lbs, just a pint-sized pit-lab package of love.

Gordy was found as a stray by FFAA adopters, and we got him in as soon as we could find space. He was so terrified when he first arrived that he had to be carried in through our doors. After just a couple of days of receiving regular meals and genuine affection, his personality transformed! He now marches around proudly, head held high and tail wagging, confident and happy.

When he spends time as office dog, he brings so much joy to its human inhabitants. He rockets around the room, investigating every interesting smell, before rotating from dog bed to couch, squeaky toy held firmly in his mouth. At any given moment, he's likely to be rolling around on his back, kicking his feet out, or grinning back at you. He's just an overwhelmingly positive presence to be around!

Gordy was just introduced to our puppy/adolescent playgroup, and he easily bounces from dog to dog, conflict free and happy to make each individual's acquaintance.

Gordy is such a happy-go-lucky, pleasant, and adorable individual. Any person who chooses him will be lucky for a lifetime to have him as their dog.

Introducing Damien!

Damien and his companion Cordelia were found dumped with several other adult dogs appearing to all be related or from the same litter.

Damien is just about 30 lbs, and with his wirey, low-shedding coat, guesses for his breed range from terrier mix to a doodle of some variety.

Damien's biggest struggle currently is that he is just not comfortable around humans yet. He has never shown any aggression or red flag behaviors. He is just very very uncomfortable and unsure. However, it is clear that he WANTS to connect. When he spends time as office dog, although he starts out trembling, too nervous to accept treats, and eyes darting helplessly around, he does eventually calm enough to at least no longer panic.

He suprises us again and again by opting into close contact. He lays close beside the office chair or sticks right by your side during walks or even in our yards offleash. If you run in the opposite direction from him, he trots right behind you.

He will not lean into your touch, nor does he run from it. He tolerates what he does not understand. But when you stop petting and give him a break, he will push into your space for a few moments. It's clear that breakthrough is right around the corner, but a kennel environment is not the easiest place for that to occur.

Damien is in need of a rare and patient soul who has zero expectations for him other than allowing him to continue progressing at his own pace. If you think you're ready to take on Damien (or his assumed sister Cordelia), we'd love to hear from you. Contact [email protected] or call the shelter at (417) 592-2512 to discuss details.

Introducing Cordelia!

Cordelia and her companion Damien were found dumped with several other adult dogs all looking like they'd come from the same litter. Although the pups were fearful, rescuers were able to wrangle most of the group.

At around 35 lbs with wispy, wirey hair and an adorable mask on her face, we aren't quite sure what her breed mix is - poodle, terrier, or something else entirely.

Cordelia is the more friendly between the two, but some timidity remains. She seemse unfamiliar with life indoors - we expect the housebreaking process to begin from scratch. She is uncertain on a leash, but she does not pull which is amazing! She is going to need a patient and faithful family to take her on, knowing that caring for an adult dog who may have never been treated as a family dog before is a work in process.

Despite all of this, Cordelia is innately gentle and sweet natured. She is responsive and eager to connect with people, even if her fears hold her back a little. She loves to sneak sweet little kisses, tail wagging hard.

She has a low-medium energy level, so once she relaxes, she's likely to just enjoy hanging out with you day-to-day. She's still figuring out how comfy couches are and what to do with toys, but we see her as a future couch potato and toy enjoyer once given the chance.

Available this SATURDAY: Meet Zombie!

Zombie is a BIG Husky male (almost 70 lbs) who is estimated at around 3 years of age. He is extremely silly, always ready to play. He throws his butt up in the air at a single glance, and he's prepared to bounce around and tussle at any moment.

Zombie is your typical Husky - opinionated, vocal, and stubborn. However, his sense of joy and fun makes him a treat to spend time with. When he's not showing off his goofy personality, he's surprisingly well-behaved, lounging around on a couch or dozing off on the cool floor.

He was originally found as a stray, but his time ran out due to his propensity towards chasing cattle. His finders urgently sought a place for him, so we took him in two weeks ago. Now he is freshly neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped - and he's ready to move on from the shelter and to the next stage of his life.

Zombie will be dog tested soon, but his people skills are out out of this world.

If you'd like to come meet Zombie, we are open Sat-Sun 10-4, closed Mon-Tues, and open Wed-Fri. Email [email protected], call the shelter, or fill out our online application for more details.

We know we have asked a lot of you recently, but these orphaned babies need your help.
Their human family had a devastating house fire last night that took these babies momma and sibling. Thankfully the firefighters saved these 4. The mostly grey pup was very close to the fire, having singed hair with melted debris stuck to her coat and feet.
They are withdrawn and scared.
If you are able to donate or even share this post we would be profoundly grateful.
Your support is how we continue to help the voiceless. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts! ♥️

Last week Rooster was sadly returned - he just wasn't meshing well with his adoptive family. But before we even had a chance to start looking for a new home for him, a new family stepped forward. The second try is the charm, and we've got our fingers crossed that this wonderful boy has found his forever this go around. Happy adoption day, Rooster!
