Did you know some ducks rock a natural pom-pom on their heads? 🦆💁‍♀️

Meet the Crested Duck — a quirky and adorable breed known for its fluffy feather “crest” that grows right on top like a little p**f or ponytail!

So what makes them special?

✨ Genetic Glow-Up – Their iconic crest comes from a genetic mutation that causes a little soft spot on the skull where feathers puff up.

👀 Unique Look – No two crests are the same! Some are big and round, others cute and messy — making each crested duck truly one-of-a-kind.

🫧 Gentle Personalities – They’re generally calm, friendly, and great backyard companions.

🌱 Fun Fact – Despite their fancy appearance, crested ducks are great foragers and love splashing in puddles just like other ducks!

We have a few Crested Ducks on the farm with different sized crests, but it's always Einstein the Duck that gets people's attention.

☀️ What a summer to remember! ☀️

While our summer season is intentionally a bit slower than spring or fall, it's by design—giving both our family and animals a chance to rest and recharge in the Texas heat. We're incredibly proud of our three older kids who took the reins at most of our summer events, allowing us to soak up more quality time with our three younger ones.

TOO HOT TO TROT! 🥵

Summer heat is creeping in fast, and for the comfort and safety of our animals, we’re making a small change to our setup policy.

Effective immediately, we will no longer offer setups on exposed concrete or turf in direct sun during summer months—even with shade tents. It’s simply too hot for our furry and scaly friends.
This ONLY applies to non-grass setups.

We’re still happily setting up on:
• Natural grass
• Indoors
• Garages
• Shaded patios or covered areas

April always sweeps in like a whirlwind—packed full of laughter, little hands petting baby animals, and over 60 events that keep us on the move nearly every day. It's one of our busiest months of the year with the petting zoo, and sometimes, in the rush, we forget to pause and take it all in.

Now that May has arrived, the pace is still steady but slower—and suddenly, we find ourselves catching our breath, looking around, and being completely in awe of the life we've built.

It's not always easy. Farming rarely is. But what a gift it is to raise six incredible kids surrounded by animals that are healthy, happy, and full of personality. What a joy to do what we love every single day—and to share it with so many of you.

We’ve been busy making improvements around the farm as we shift our focus to rotational grazing—but nature had its own surprise in store for us!

A few weeks ago, we noticed two broody hens tucked away on opposite sides of the area. Instead of moving them, we carefully took down the fencing around them, leaving their cozy spots untouched, hoping they’d stick with it.

Well… our patience paid off! We’ve welcomed our first batch of farm-hatched chicks—6 tiny fluffballs and pure joy.

This is our first time having a rooster in with the hens, so it's a brand-new experience for us, and honestly… we’re obsessed. We could watch them all day!
