💜 TUBS NEEDS US 💜
Sometimes, rescue stories take a few unexpected turns before an animal finally finds the people who can give them the care they need. Tubs’ journey has certainly been one of those stories.
Tubs originally entered another local rescue in July. Over the following months, it became clear that his medical needs were more extensive than anyone had initially realized. By October, the cost of the surgery he needed had become more than the rescue could manage, and euthanasia was being considered as an option.
But we knew Tubs deserved a chance.
Despite everything he has been through, this sweet senior boy has an incredibly good chance at a happy, comfortable life with the right medical care. So we stepped in and brought him to Zoi’s.
According to the medical records we have from his previous owners and rescue, Tubs has lost 18 POUNDS since last year — going from 58 lbs to just 40 lbs. His ribs are showing. He has masses on his leg and tail that need to be removed, leaving him living in a cone 24/7 to avoid picking and bleeding.
He has also struggled with terrible allergies that left him itching constantly, as well as urinary problems that previous veterinarians have never been able to fully figure out. He is potty trained, but he has accidents because he simply cannot always control his bladder and has a history of chronic UTIs.
And now, we are finally getting him the care he deserves. 🥺
A HUGE thank you to the incredible team at Southwood Valley Animal Hospital. We began our partnership with them in May, and they have been nothing but kind, accommodating, and supportive of our animals and their often complicated medical needs.
Tubs saw them last week and has already started an antibiotic and steroid to help with his skin. There is a possibility that he may need allergy medication for the rest of his life, which could cost approximately $100 EVERY MONTH.
This Friday, Tubs will have surgery to remove the mass on his leg. The surgery is estimated at $550, and the mass will be sent for a biopsy. His veterinarians are concerned that it could be cancerous, but we are remaining hopeful until we have an actual diagnosis. We will also be working with his veterinary team to get to the bottom of his urinary problems.
Thankfully, Tubs has landed with our amazing medical foster who has opened her home to him and is giving him the chance he so desperately needed.
At around 8 years old, Tubs is the sweetest, chillest senior boy. He doesn't ask for much. He just wants to be loved, feel comfortable, and have someone who won't give up on him.
And WE DON'T WANT TO GIVE UP ON HIM. 🥺💜
We are asking for donations to help cover Tubs' surgery, biopsy, medications, and the ongoing medical care he will need as we figure out exactly what is going on.
We have five years of medical records from his previous owners and rescue, and we are working with his veterinary team to put the pieces together and give this boy the fresh start he deserves.
And while we work through his medical care, Tubs is AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT! He won't be available for official adoption until we get down to the bottom of his medical mysteries, but we are hopeful that his future family is out there and wants to help him through his medical journey and who sees the wonderful dog beyond it 🏡
