Jesus very practically teaches the qualifications for inheriting the kingdom of God when He states, “I was hungry, and you fed me.” Our mandate to feed the hungry has not changed in 2000 years, and it must remain our priority now! Cul2vate seeks to engage poverty at the point of hunger and deliver nutritional food to those who are hungry. Our work is founded upon two principles intertwined for the betterment of its farmers. The first is the most important - providing for the nourishment of the body and the soul! Through the food production in our “tunnels”, we are decreasing the food desert in Middle Tennessee by growing superior quality vegetables and increasing nutritional accessibility to those who are hungry. The second principle creates an opportunity for future full-time employment for our farmers by providing much needed life skills and business skills training. These tunnel sites are the training grounds for those who want to break the generational cycle of poverty by learning to feed themselves and others through agriculture and employment.

You picked pumpkins with us a few weeks ago, and now Halloween has come and gone. As tempting as it is to just throw them away, billions of pumpkins fill the landfill every year and there are other options! We have 3 ideas of what you can do with your pumpkins:

1. Donate to a local farm

Local farms are able to use pumpkins to feed animals or nourish soil. Be sure to call ahead and make sure they are taking donations before you drop off your pumpkins. Some farms like are having events where you can donate your pumpkins all at once! Check them out on November 7th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

2. Compost

Pumpkins are great for your home compost or to drop-off with a company like or a convenient Metro Nashville location to be composted with the city.

3. Repurpose

Create beautiful centerpieces for Thanksgiving decor or use the rest of carved pumpkins to make some delicious baked goods.

What do families receive when they get a Cul2vate Real Food Box?

Meat 🥓:

Families receive an assortment of meat, including beef from Jeff Green at Green Farm Ministries and beef and pork through Meat the Need. This protein donation initiative is distributed by the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation, Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association, and Tennessee Pork Producers. The pork comes from Tosh Farms, while the beef is provided by Garrison Valley Farms.

Shelf-Stable Goods 🍞:

Rice, beans, pasta, and other pantry items are provided through Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

Produce 🍅:

Fruits and vegetables are grown right here at Cul2vate’s farms across Middle Tennessee and added to each Real Food Box.

Eggs 🥚:

Jeff Green at Green Farm Ministries provides fresh, local eggs for recipients.
