Jesus very practically teaches the qualifications for inheriting the kingdom of God when He states, “I was hungry, and you fed me.” Our mandate to feed the hungry has not changed in 2000 years, and it must remain our priority now! Cul2vate seeks to engage poverty at the point of hunger and deliver nutritional food to those who are hungry. Our work is founded upon two principles intertwined for the

betterment of its farmers. The first is the most important - providing for the nourishment of the body and the soul! Through the food production in our “tunnels”, we are decreasing the food desert in Middle Tennessee by growing superior quality vegetables and increasing nutritional accessibility to those who are hungry. The second principle creates an opportunity for future full-time employment for our farmers by providing much needed life skills and business skills training. These tunnel sites are the training grounds for those who want to break the generational cycle of poverty by learning to feed themselves and others through agriculture and employment.

One of the things we do at Cul2vate is grow food. But where does that food go? We distribute food across the state of Tennessee, and these are just a few of the places our food has gone this summer. The Nashville Food Project, Body and Soul, and Edgehill Neighborhood Partnership are incredible organizations we’re grateful to partner with in getting fresh, local produce into people’s hands and homes.

On Saturday, one of our Farm Managers, Deberry, visited Smithville Assemblies of God for their Sidewalk Saturday program, where the church distributes bags of produce and canned goods to those in need. This time, they served residents of low-income housing in Smithville, TN.

Cul2vate donated 200 lbs of potatoes, 164 lbs of green beans, 100 lbs of zucchini, and 25 lbs of onions. Deberry’s commitment to serving his community truly embodies the Cul2vate spirit. Sharing food and hope for tomorrow is at the heart of what we do.
