HORRIBLE SITUATION — WOMAN ATTACKED BY FIVE DOGS IN HER OWN HOME.
I first reported on the incident this morning.
Now Metro-Nashville police have released more disturbing details:
A 47-year-old Nashville woman is hospitalized and recovering from emergency surgery following a Monday night attack by five dogs inside her McKennie Avenue home.
A neighbor called 911 just before midnight after hearing the victim screaming for help.
Arriving East Precinct officers kicked in the front door. They saw the victim bloodied and lying motionless on the kitchen floor with the dogs on and around her.
Three officers fired their service pistols at the dogs in defense of the victim and in protection of themselves.
The five were fatally wounded.
A sixth dog, which was in a bedroom and gated away from the kitchen area, was not injured and was placed into the custody of Metro Animal Control.
Officers immediately rendered emergency medical care to the victim.
She was rushed to Skyline Medical Center with serious injuries.
SHE had acquired the dogs from an animal rescue organization.
First, I hope this woman recovers.
My thoughts and prayers are with her.
This is awful … and raises several questions:
First, under what circumstances did she end up with FIVE dogs?
Second, what animal rescue?
Most all I am familiar with are very careful about how and where they adopt out animals.
They also go to great lengths to make sure the dogs are not vicious and are socialized to humans and other animals before adoption.
So, something here went very wrong.
MORE TO COME.
