On Sunday, February 9, 2020, Toda, a 4year old Bull Terrier was trapped inside his home during a house fire. Luckily, his mom was able to get herself and his human sister outside to safety.
Unfortunately, Toda was very confused and the commotion of the sirens really scared him and he ran back inside the burning house, where he remained trapped for more than 20 minutes! Thanks to the quick response and advanced training of the Nashua Fire Department, they were able to locate Toda and get him outside where they were able to deliver oxygen through a specially designed animal oxygen mask and revive him. Once he regained consciousness, members of the emergency response team transported him to Animal Medical Center of New England - a 24 hour emergency veterinary hospital, where he immediately began receiving life saving treatments.
Toda had to remain hospitalized for a total of 4 days in our intensive care unit under constant supervision, while he battled through severe smoke inhalation and pneumonia. Our ICU veterinarians, licensed technicians and assistants worked around the clock to insure that he remained stable and did not succumb to his major, life threatening, traumatic injuries.
We are unbelievably happy to report that on Thursday, February 13, 2020, we were able to discharge Toda from our ICU to continue his recovery with his family.
Toda’s family has lost everything and are living in short term housing while they get back on their feet. Toda’s human dad serves in the U. S. Army and is currently deployed and is unable to come home to be with his wife and their young daughter. Please consider donations to help this family rebuild their entire life.
Donations for the family can be dropped off at the Animal Hospital of Nashua or Animal Medical Center of New England hospitals where they will be delivered. No donation is too small!
