🎓🐾 High School Internships — Small Cohort, Big Impact

Yes, we offer student internships for those who need to complete them for school! Spots are very limited and designed for hands-on learning with cats and shelter operations. Act fast to secure your spot.

What you’ll learn (pick a focus):
• Animal Care & Enrichment — daily care, Fear Free handling, stress reduction
• Adoptions & Guest Experience — reception support, meet-and-greet setup
• Media & Bios (remote-friendly) — photos, short videos, adoption bios
• Logistics — laundry, stocking, organizing supplies

✨ Got a weird skill? We want it.

Pet Haven is building a roster of out-of-the-box volunteer roles—short shifts, remote options, and creative gigs that make cats’ lives better (Fear Free style). We will need a lot of help in the coming year while we work on moving our location.

Examples we’re excited about:
• Photo/Video Studio Crew – snap adoptable glam shots, light editing
• Calm Crew – read aloud in cat rooms, prep towel burritos, restock pheromones
• Transport Ninjas – safe “cat taxi” to vet/ foster; supply runs
• Fix-It/Build Team – hide boxes, shelves, small repairs
• Bio Writers & Caption Queens/Kings – adoption bios from home
• Bilingual Helpers (ES/ASL) – support at reception & events

If the smell of clean kennels and the sound of purrs is your love language, this is your job. You’ll keep cats healthy and comfy with daily cleaning, feeding, fresh water, litter refreshes, and gentle, Fear Free–style handling. You’ll restock supplies, run laundry/dishes, and help the lobby look welcoming for adopters. 💛

You are: reliable, kind, detail-oriented, able to lift 40 lbs, and ready to be on your feet. Morning people encouraged to apply. Cat experience is a plus—not required.

🗓️ Take Your Cat to the Vet Day is Friday, Aug 22!

Cats are masters at hiding pain—wellness checks catch issues early and keep them comfy longer. We’re Fear Free Certified, so here are 3 quick tips to make the visit calm:

+ Prep the carrier: leave it out with a soft blanket; spritz feline pheromone 15–30 min before.
+ Travel soft: secure the carrier; cover with a light towel; speak quietly.
+ Treats & praise: reward before, during, and after.

🐾 Meet & Greet Etiquette: How to have the best visit

Thinking about adopting? Here’s how to make your time at Pet Haven calm, kind, and Fear Free.

Do:
• Let the cat set the pace—sit low, offer a hand, slow movements
• Use our treats/toys (no outside food please)
• Speak softly; one or two visitors at a time in each space
• Sanitize hands between rooms/cats
• Ask staff before picking up or opening enclosures
• Kids welcome—gentle petting, one hand at a time, seated if possible

Please avoid:
• Loud noises, chasing, or tapping on glass
• Flash photography or strong perfumes
• Bringing personal pets unless we’ve scheduled an intro

Helpful to bring:
• Photo ID • Housing/pet policy info • All household decision-makers (if possible)

We’re Fear Free Certified, which means your comfort and the cats’ comfort come first.
