Tomorrow, March 9th, we will be at Petco Open Adoption Day from 2-6. We will have buns available for foster and adoption. We will also have a special focus on getting fosters for some of the orphaned babies we have. These are young bunnies. They were just weaned, and are younger than we usually foster babies, but we want them to get special care in families.

The babies must be fostered with at least one other baby so they have a friend to cuddle. Families that are interested will need to understand how fragile baby bunnies are, and be willing to work closely with the rescue, and follow handling instructions.

If you are interested in fostering babies, please fill out a foster application at www.saveabunrabbitrescue.com. We will be especially selective of families that can foster these young buns.

We are so excited to see you all tomorrow. Come by and see us!

Finding great homes for our bunnies is our favorite part of Save A Bun Rabbit Rescue . Last week we were thrilled to have 3 bunnies join new families. All these buns are settling in so well, and loving their new bun friends and human families.

Our first bun is now named Huck, and couldn't be more happy. He has a new bun friend named Bella and they bonded right away. They love to snuggle! We are so excited for Huck and his new family! He will get so much love!

Next wehave Maggie and Waffles. We featured Maggie a week ago. She is the fun little lop that had serious fly strike, and has leftover facial scars from her injuries. When she arrived at her new family's home, she went right into her new room, where her new friend JJ lived. This place is a bunny wonderland and Maggie decided this was the place for her. She met JJ and immediately started grooming him. She was home, and she knew it.

Not to be outdone, Waffles also saw the bunny wonderland and decided he wanted to stay too! He wasn't quite as sure about JJ, so they are taking their friendship a little slower. But he LOVES his new human mom! We are so excited for Waffles! He is such a sweetheart.

These buns found the perfect families for them. If you are interested in fostering a bun, please come visit us at Petco Open Adoption Day in Nampa, this Sunday from 2-6. We have adoptable buns, and adorable babies available to foster.

This week we were brought 3 babies, from 3 different areas in Boise and Nampa. All were the only survivors of their litters. All of these babies were born outside to bunnies that were dumped.

We frequently hear people who "love to see" the bunnies running around neighborhoods. What people don't understand is that bunnies have between 3-13 babies evry 30 days, and females can get pregnant within 1 hour of getting birth. Having only 1 baby survive, unfortunately, is the reality of dumped bunnies having babies. At about 3 weeks old, babies start coming out of their burrows. Most of these babies are snatched up by predators such as cat, dogs and birds.

One of these little buns was brought into a house by a family cat. It has some minor injuries. Another baby was found alone outside, and the final baby was found next to all of his deceased siblings. While some buns do survive when dumped, the majority don't, and those that do live, have very shortened lives.

We know that followers of our page know the realities of dumped bunnies, but we want to continue educating people until everyone knows bunnies that are dumped die. And when they live, they take over neighborhoods and breed in their shortened lives. Neither are good.

While we are happy we are able to help these sweet bunnies, we wish there wasn't a need.

This is miracle Maggie! Maggie is available to foster/adopt!

Here is her amazing story. Maggie came to us with fly strike (maggots eating her face). The pictures are too horrific to show. We truly didn't think she would live, but the vet said aside from the massive injury, she was healthy, and we could try. She had very little skin on her face, and we could only see one eye, but Maggie made it clear she wanted to live. She needed full time care to keep her face from being infected, and to give pain meds. About a week into this, we discovered Maggie had her second eye! We still weren't hopeful it would work, but it was good to see her healing. After a few weeks Maggie was making amazing progress. She had skin and was growing fur! She was excited to eat. She only got better from there.

While she is completely healthy now, her face still has some scars from her trauma. The eye in the injured area is fully functional, but is a little different. However, it doesn't need any special care. She would love a home where she has room to play and explore. She is not afraid of dogs or cats. She loves treats! She would love to join a family! If you are interested in Maggie, please fill out a foster application at www.saveabunrabbitrescue.com.

Remember our baby with the eye infection? She is healthy, and weaned and ready to foster! We are looking for a special family for this sweetheart. She is small because she was formula fed. She is about 7-8 weeks old. Formula just isn't as wonderful as mommy's milk, but is what we have to use when there is no mamma. She eats hay and pellets like a champ. While she is a healthy bun, we need a family that understands that babies are fragile, and their health can fail quickly. She will need a lot of love, attention, and care to watch for proper eating and pooping. We are here for support too! If you are interested in fostering this sweet, cuddly baby, please fill out a foster application at www.saveabunrabbitrescue.com. We will look over all applications and find the best fit for this precious girl.

Unfortunately 2 of our six pack passed, and we are down to 4. It is a sad reality of Baby bunnies. But the 4 we have are so full of energy and have grown so fast! They will be available to foster in about 4 weeks. It is so much fun to watch them grow. This week they started munching on hay, and are on their way to transitioning to big babies. Next week they will get to try pellets.

Look how big our baby that came in with the eye infections has gotten! So adorable. He will be available to go to a foster home in two weeks. He is super sweet and social.

Baby update! The 4 baby's eyes opened this week! And their ears are trying to lop. They are so adorable!

It's a big day for the 6 pack! Their eyes are opening. All of the babies, except for the 2 REWs (red eye whites), have their eyes open. The last two will most likely be open by tonight or tomorrow morning. This is a big milestone for baby buns. It indicates that they are old enough to go potty on their own, without needing to be stimulated. They are also ready to start nibbling on alfalfa to get their tummies ready to be big buns. Look at those cute, sleepy eyes! This was right after they ate, and were ready for a nap.

Rescue babies! We have been caring for some special babies over the last few weeks. We introduced our cutie that was found in a parking lot. There is an updated picture below. Not long after that bunny arrived, we had someone reach out that had orphaned babies that needed care. These brand new babies were hungry and quickly learned to drink from the miracle ni**le (special feeding ni**les for buns). Then they started growing. And growing. And growing! They are now 1.5 weeks old and wiggly as can be. Their eyes will open in the next couple days. Eating and growing are their favorite things to do.

Exactly one week after the orphaned babies arrived, a family called who were surprised with babies overnight. They thought their bunny was too young to have babies, but the family woke up to 4 tiny buns. One of them was extra small. Bun mom wasn't interested in the babies and chewed on the little ones ear and tail. On top of that, mom didn't produce milk.

These buns arrived dehydrated. They didn't take to eating right away, but after a couple feedings they figured it out and loved their formula! They have grown so fast. They are only 4 days old, but they have already grown so much! They even have fur.

Hand raising baby buns is difficult. They aspirate very easily and have very sensitive tummies. Luckily we have volunteers that have a lot of experience hand feeding babies, and have a good success rate. We are excited to watch these babies grow, and are cheering them on!

Shout out to another Family that have officially adopted a bunny from us. Meet Cocoa Vader (love this name) she was at our Petco Adoption/Foster day last month.
She started as a Foster and has now been officially adopted after being spayed by our fabulous vet Merik Metos Sun Animal Hospital in Nampa

When we talk to people about bunnies running free in the community, we hear a lot of people say "I love watching the bunnies run through my yard/neighborhood! They are so cute! Unfortunately, this is the reality of bunnies that run free in the community. They have babies every 30 days. Most babies don't live to be adults. If the buns do live to be adults, they have a good chance of being picked up by a bird, or attacked by a dog.

This is a lucky baby. It was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The eyes were completely swollen shut. After a week of antibiotic eye ointment, this poor baby's eyes are better, but it is blind in one eye. Unfortunately, this is the reality of dumped bunnies. Bunnies that are dumped are not "fine." They are in danger. Please help educate others about the seriousness of dumping bunnies.

Another fabulous story. Vienna Lynn Strauss Fostered a bunny from us named Smokey Back in February to be a mate with her bunny Cuddles. Cuddles unfortunately passed away. Vienna decided she wanted to get another pal for Smokey. We went out on a speed date and Smokey could decide so we left two. Well look at them now!
They get the whole back yard and inside too. Plus look at the fresh greens. What do you say Save A Bun Rabbit Rescue followers, should Vienna turn these foster buns into a triple adoption?

Here is an update to the sweet Tiny bunny being fostered by Sara Nordio and her daughter Sofia. If you remember this bunny was brought to our vet Merik Metos with @ Rising Sun Animal Hospital in Nampa.
A lady found it outside. Merik called us and I rushed over to help.
Well, Darci my Volunteer hand fed it for awhile and then Sara wanted to foster. We posted a few photos before but this is what's been happening since.
