๐๐พ Heat & Wildfire Smoke Safety for Your Pets ๐พ๐ซ๏ธ
The heat and smoky air have made it uncomfortable for all of us, but it can be especially dangerous for our pets.
Here are a few ways to help keep them safe:
๐พ Walk your dog early in the morning or later in the evening when it's cooler. ๐ง Keep plenty of fresh, cool water available at all times. ๐ก Limit outdoor time and keep pets indoors as much as possible when the air is smoky. ๐ก๏ธ Never leave your pet in a parked carโnot even for a minute. ๐ฅ Check the pavement before walks. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws. ๐ฌ๏ธ Keep windows closed during smoky conditions and use air conditioning or an air purifier if you have one. ๐พ Give your pets indoor enrichment with toys, training, or puzzle games instead of long outdoor play sessions.
โ ๏ธ Watch for signs of heat exhaustion or smoke irritation: โข Excessive panting โข Difficulty breathing or coughing โข Weakness or lethargy โข Bright red gums โข Vomiting or collapse
If you notice any of these signs, move your pet to a cool place, offer water, and contact your veterinarian right away.
โค๏ธ Stay safe, everyone! We hope you and your furry family members stay cool, healthy, and comfortable until the weather and air quality improve.
