You have to have a bond and a relationship with your dog. This is the very first step when it comes to training. Without this, it’s hard to teach and train.

'My dog is friendly’ is becoming the new ‘rules don’t apply to me.’

Pets do NOT belong in shopping carts or non-pet-friendly stores. And no, putting a blanket down doesn’t magically make it sanitary.

Service dogs are highly trained medical equipment, not accessories, emotional support pets, or something people fake so they can take 'Bella' to Target. Every fake service dog or poorly behaved pet in a store makes life harder for disabled handlers who actually need their dogs to function safely.

Not to mention:
-It’s gross. Carts are for food.
-It’s breaks FDA guidelines
-If your dog reacts, lunges, barks, or snaps, you’re risking someone else’s safety.

Meanwhile, my service dog isn’t distracted here because he’s actually trained to ignore surrounding chaos and focus on his job. That’s the difference.

I love dogs. But your pet does not need to go shopping with you.

Normalize leaving pets at home. ❤️

Question of the day: Why does my dog(s) dig? How do I stop them from digging?

1. Digging is one of the most common instinctual canine behaviors that they have.

In most cases you really need to know the breed as well as their traits. For example, Dachshunds. Back in WW2, this particular breed was used to dig tunnels so that the army / military can safely move the wounded men / women to local hospitals for treatment.

2. There are multiple reasons as to why a dog will dig:

- Hunting Instincts. They’re hunting their prey such as moles or mice. If your yard is infested with them this will happen.

- Know the breed. Some breeds are known to have a thicker coat than most dogs. When it’s summer time it’s hot. By digging a hole, it creates a cool spot for them to lay in.

- They are wanting to bury their most precious treasure (i.e; bone, toy).

- Boredom

- Escaping. This can be either from being anxious or nervous due to being alone or they’re trying to find a friend / mate.

- They watched you dig in your garden and now they think that it’s ok to dig.

How to stop the digging:

1. Increase their daily exercise.

2. Increase their daily mental stimulation.

3. Increase the amount of time you’re training them.

Moral of this is to be consistent all the way around, making sure you’re setting them up for success. Remember to be proactive vs reactive. Do not wait to correct when the behavior has already occurred. Most importantly making sure that they have things to do throughout the day.

Always remember that a tired dog is a good dog.
