Three weeks later, Tim McGraw’s Board & Train is complete.

After spending more than 400 days in the shelter, Tim came to MLK9 with one goal: give him a stronger foundation and a better chance at finding the right home.

Over the last three weeks, we’ve worked on leash communication, engagement, obedience, place, duration, impulse control, and helping Tim better understand what’s expected of him.

The progress is clear.

A huge thank you to Salty Dogs Senior Rescue for fully sponsoring Tim’s training, and to Horry County Animal Care Center for their continued partnership and trust.

Now comes the most important part.

Tim still needs a home.

The training is complete. Now we need to get his story in front of the right person.

Week 2 with Tim McGraw is in the books.

Last week, most of our focus was on leash communication and getting Tim moving with us. This week, we started building on that foundation by adding more obedience, improving his down, introducing place, and beginning to add duration and impulse control.

The progress is starting to show.

Tim has now spent more than 400 days waiting for a home, and thanks to Salty Dogs Senior Rescue, his 3-week Board & Train with MLK9 Myrtle Beach has been fully sponsored.

We’re grateful to Horry County Animal Care Center for their continued partnership and for giving us the opportunity to work with Tim.

He has one week left with us, but the biggest goal is still ahead:

Tim needs a home.

Some of our longtime followers may remember Keith Urban.

Keith and Tim McGraw were rescued by Horry County Animal Care Center together. Keith came to MLK9 back in January for training, later found his new home, and is doing extremely well.

Tim’s story has taken a little longer.

After spending more than 400 days in the shelter, Tim is finally getting his opportunity.

Thanks to Salty Dogs Senior Rescue, Tim’s 3-week Board & Train with MLK9 Myrtle Beach has been fully sponsored, giving him the opportunity to work on his training, build better habits, and show everyone what he’s capable of.

This video shows where Tim started on Day 1 compared to where he is after just one week of training. We still have two weeks to go, but we’re already seeing better engagement, impulse control, leash manners, and overall communication.

🐾 SUNDAY SUCCESS STORY: KALI 🐾

When Kali first came to MLK9, she was highly dog reactive and had earned a reputation around her neighborhood as “that dog.” Walks were stressful, seeing another dog could quickly turn into a problem, and taking her around the neighborhood was anything but relaxing!

Fast forward to today, and Kali is almost the complete opposite dog! She is now walking calmly on a loose leash, making better choices around distractions, and showing the confidence and control we knew she was capable of. One of the biggest wins? Her owners’ young son can now comfortably walk her around the neighborhood.

That is what this is all about. Not just teaching a dog to sit, down, or place, but giving families the confidence and freedom to actually enjoy life with their dog!

Kali didn’t need to be labeled as “that dog.” She needed clear communication, structure, consistency, and someone to show her what was expected.

We’re incredibly proud of how far she has come, and even more excited for her family to keep building on that progress at home!

🐾 Taking Gouden’s Training Into the Real World 🇺🇸

Today we took Gouden out to put in some work where it matters most, the real world. We made stops at Home Depot and Broadway at the Beach to proof his obedience around busy environments, new sights, unfamiliar sounds, different surfaces, shopping carts, crowds, and plenty of distractions.

Training isn’t just about what a dog can do in a quiet training building. It’s about building reliability anywhere, anytime. The more positive, controlled exposure a dog gets, the more confident and dependable they become.

Gouden did an awesome job today and continues to make progress every time we get out. Every outing is another opportunity to build confidence, reinforce obedience, and prepare him for success in everyday life.

🐾 Meet Judge! 🐾

MLK9 Myrtle Beach is excited to be fostering another great dog while he searches for his forever family!

Judge is a 1½-year-old Belgian Malinois mix weighing about 65 pounds. He’s a handsome red and black Malinois mix who is already neutered, heartworm negative, and ready to go home.

Judge came to the Horry County Animal Care Center as a stray, and it’s hard to believe he hasn’t been adopted yet. He’s incredibly sweet, very smart, and has been friendly with the other dogs he’s met. He has a great personality and would make an awesome companion for the right family.

So far, we’ve fostered five other dogs and helped every single one find a home. Let’s keep that record going and find Judge the forever home he deserves!
