On this Giving Tuesday, consider supporting Myrtle Beach Wildlife Rescue Center and our mission of rehabilitating injured/orphaned wildlife. We operate with no paid staff, ensuring that every donation goes directly to providing essential care for animals in need. Your contribution helps us provide medical treatment, food, and safe environments for these vulnerable animals, giving them a second chance at life in the wild

The day before yesterday we took in these two poor baby squirrels after the tree their nest was in was struck by lightning. They both sustained injuries from the strike but one of them was worse off than the other. Sadly that baby didn’t make it through the night, but the other is doing well considering and we are hopeful there won’t be any long term effects but only time will tell. Both babies have hand injuries, they are swollen and pink which is common when an electrical current travels through the body, the exit points are often through hands or feet.

These are just 2 of the 53 baby squirrels we have taken in over the last month and calls keep coming in daily with more needing help. The food and medical bills for the babies we already have in care is high, which means we need your help so we won’t have to turn any babies away

Please consider donating towards the care of all these precious babies that are relying on us to help them ❤️‍🩹

We have transports going down to their medical clinic almost daily because of the amount of birds in our area that need help. I don’t think there is a day that goes by that we don’t take in at least one bird that is sent down to them. Many with suspected rodenticide poisoning, emaciated due to injury/illness, fish hook/line injuries, head trauma, migration fatigue, amongst other issues. Their medical clinic team is truly amazing, we are so grateful for all their help and everything they do. Many people think they only rehabilitate birds of prey, but they also take pelagic, wading and shorebirds. Please consider donating towards the care of the birds they help from our area ❤️‍🩹

We need your help!

Every day calls pour in asking for help with native baby birds, Canada geese, and turtles with cracked shells just to find that we aren’t able to help. It’s not because we don’t want to, but our center does not have the required state or federal permits to rehab these species. We are constantly told that the permitted centers that can legally rehab these animals will not take them. Our hearts are broken but our hands are tied when it comes to taking in certain state/federally protected species, if caught we face huge fines, jail time and being banned from being able to obtain permits in the future. Any birds that The Center for Birds of Prey accepts, we can help with because their staff does not turn birds away and always happy to help, the birds are quickly transported to their medical clinic. Our agreement with law enforcement over the years has always been that we will only keep animals that we are legally allowed to have and will only take in state/federally protected animals if centers with permits to rehab will take them. They trust that we will get the animals where they need to go and I do not want to break that trust, it would risk the future of our center. In order for us to get permits to help those that are currently turned away by many, we need land to build the required enclosures for each specific species. With being a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, it’s outlined in the paperwork that we are not allowed to rent land so our options are limited without raising funds to purchase property. We want to be able to help more so we are starting a fundraiser to be able to purchase land to build these enclosures so we don’t have to say no to the animals other centers won’t take. All animal lives matter and they deserve to be helped like all the others. Please consider donating to our center, together we can save more lives ❤️‍

Squirrels are so ridiculously cute ❤️😊

Every year we take in 75-100 baby eastern grey squirrels. Due to the high intake amount and the recent development in our area, this year will be especially difficult with releases since there is very little natural habitat left, most neighborhoods now have almost no trees suitable for squirrels. We have put up small prerelease enclosures on private properties where the home/land owners are providing daily care (feeding and ensuring safety during this last phase of their stay in rehab), but we have one problem, we need more enclosures to be able to move squirrels out quicker so that we aren’t holding onto any of them longer than needed as the others are transitioning into the wild which is a process that takes about a month. These size enclosures are easy to transport so we can move them to different locations so we don’t overpopulate one area.

Please consider donating toward our prerelease enclosure fund ❤️

Those little hands 🥰 This little one just came in after being found in a shed.

If you find a baby opossum, please don’t leave them thinking mom will come back because she won’t. Mom opossums can carry up to 13 babies at a time so if she is startled, babies can fall off and she won’t know they are missing. Place the baby in a secure container, keep warm, and reach out to a rehabber for help

Opossums really are amazing animals and very misunderstood. We currently have one of every size in care 🦡❤️‍🩹
