Something I've found since being in business is trying to train and specialize in too many things makes it more difficult to focus on the things I really want to focus on. When a trainer focuses on too many different training things, they become spread too thin and they don't have the skills necessary for all these complex problems.
Things like aggression, reactivity, separation anxiety, trick training, and agility all take very different approaches and skill sets. Taking on all of these things is a lot. I'm not saying it's not possible, but I would rather hire a trainer that's extremely efficient, highly educated, and has specialized training in 1-3 things rather than a trainer who does EVERYTHING. Right?
I specialize in puppy rearing, aggression, and reactivity but I've recently found myself with a dog that has separation issues. I don't have any extra training in separation anxiety. I don't take separation anxiety cases (I refer them to a trainer who has specialized experience in this because I know she's the best on for the job). But at the end of the day, I am a dog trainer and I am going to figure this out and train my dog!
So here I am, taking on a 4th specialization. I don't know if it's a program I will offer, but I will be sharing my journey on here and on TikTok/Instagram as I work through Poe's separation issues.
