REINTRODUCING
Tula — a girl learning that life can be safe
Tula came into our care through a situation that, frankly, did not happen the way a responsible rescue intake normally should.
At one point, someone who had been involved with rescue agreed to have Tula brought up from Mexico. She came with our consent to be part of Misfit Ranch, but without the vetting, background information, or committed foster placement that should have been in place before a dog makes that kind of journey. We did not have the history we needed. We didn't know what she had experienced, what she had been exposed to, or what she would need.
But she was here.
And once a dog is in front of us, we don't believe in pointing fingers or looking for someone else to take responsibility.
So Misfit Ranch took responsibility for Tula.
Now we're getting to know the dog underneath all the uncertainty.
Tula is working on something that sounds simple but can be incredibly difficult for a dog who hasn't had the right foundation: learning how to be a dog.
She's learning that people can be trusted.
She's learning that she doesn't have to be on guard all the time.
She's learning what it feels like to have choices.
She's learning how to relax, play, explore, and simply exist without constantly wondering what comes next.
And she's making progress.
But we aren't going to sugarcoat her story to get her adopted.
Tula is not a "plug-and-play" dog. She needs someone who understands that trust is earned, not demanded. Someone who can give her time to decompress and who won't expect an unfamiliar dog to immediately behave like a confident family pet. Her adopter will need patience, consistency, good boundaries, and a willingness to let Tula set the pace while she learns that the world isn't something she has to fear.
We don't know everything about her past—and we won't invent a story to fill in the blanks.
What we do know is that her past doesn't have to determine her future.
Tula deserves the opportunity to have the quiet, predictable life that should have been part of her story from the beginning. She deserves people who will see the scared or uncertain moments not as failures, but as communication. She deserves someone willing to celebrate the little victories: the first time she chooses to come closer, the first deep sigh when she realizes she's safe, the first silly moment when she forgets to be cautious and just is a dog.
And somewhere out there is the person who will understand that those moments are worth waiting for.
Tula is looking for a foster or, even better, a forever home.
We are looking for someone who is patient, emotionally steady, and realistic about the commitment involved in helping a dog build confidence. If you're looking for an instant best friend, Tula probably isn't the dog for you.
But if you have the heart to help a dog discover who she can become, Tula may be exactly the dog you've been looking for.
Misfit didn't create the circumstances that brought Tula here. We didn't have all the information we should have had. But we consented to her coming as part of Misfit, and we accept responsibility for her now.
We're going to do everything we can to give her the chance she deserves.
Now we're looking for someone who will help us finish that job.
Tula is still learning to be brave. She's still learning to trust. And she's waiting for someone patient enough to teach her that being a dog can be a pretty wonderful thing. ❤️
