I’ve seen multiple times recently on social media claims that “steel shoes are actually MORE flexible than glue ons!” And every time I read it I feel more and more confused 🤔

Do we have different definitions for “flexible”?
What does this video demonstrate if not a difference in flex between the two materials?

This simple video is my response to these claims that I firmly believe are false and quite frankly very silly.
After all, there’s a reason our sky scrapers and bridges are built with steel and not urethane….but I’m no engineer 🤷‍♀️

And I’m not anti steel shoes.
Some cases need more flex, some cases need more rigidity. There’s always more than one right answer with horses.
This isn’t a pro or anti post in any way though I’m sure the trolls will make it one.

A few degrees for straight phalangeal alignment on a big dressage boy.
I thought I had achieved a darn good alignment with this guy and had “graduated” him out of wedges and down to a flat shoe. But when his soundness started wavering, X-rays showed broken back alignment on both fronts. This is his second cycle back in wedges with DIM and he’s felt more balanced and sound for trims and riding lessons.

I had the honor of hosting Becks Nairn this weekend for a whole horse dissection on my dear client, Ava.
My head and heart are still a bit heavy after everything we found, discussed, and all she had to teach us.

DSLD is something I genuinely thought I’d learn about in school and maybe see a couple times in my career. Sadly, I see it very often and far more often than I’d ever want to.

I was fully immersed in the experience of the last 2 days and didn’t take the photos and videos I normally would, so hopefully the other attendees will share their experiences and we can keep spreading the good word about this disease because when we know better, we can do better ❤️
