Friends and local clients: We have seen an abrupt increase in acute respiratory disease. Symptoms include severe coughing to the point of hacking up flem/discharge, decreased appetite, and general malaise, with and without a fever. These symptoms are most consistent with kennel cough, which is a highly contagious respiratory infection.
We are seeing these symptoms from patients who have been to daycare, boarding, grooming, the dog park, etc. We are in no way blaming any of these organizations as dogs can often be asymptomatic and you do not know there has even been exposure until days later.

At this time, we recommend you exercise caution in taking your dogs to public places that aren't completely necessary.

Please let us know if we can help. We appreciate the patrons who have been patient about waiting in their vehicles with their sick dogs as we try our best to protect everyone else and prevent the further spread of disease.

Dr. Sheila spent a few days last week obtaining continuing education at the Southeast Veterinary Conference hosted by the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians.

We have already been working to implement new in-clinic diagnostics and she has already been in contact with some of you about new treatment modalities and medications available for your pets.

This past Saturday, one of our very own walked across the stage at Murray State. Many of you will recognize Staff Seargent Mallorie Godair who recently completed the requirements for her Bachelor's degree in Animal Health Technology. Mallorie managed to juggle being a full-time student, full-time Mama, member of the Air Force National Guard, and work part-time with us.

Mallorie has filled many roles at VMC and she is a HUGE asset to our team. We love her so much, we offered her a position to stick around in a full-time capacity. Congratulations to our very own, Mallorie!!!
