"Sent Together"
Man and His Dog
In the beginning, before time began, a soul stood before God.
“I am ready,” said the soul. “Send me to Earth.”
God smiled gently. “The road is long. There will be joy, yes but also pain, loss, and loneliness. Do you still want to go?”
“I do,” said the soul. “But… will I be alone?”
God looked over His shoulder and called. From the shadows padded a quiet companion soft of foot, bright of eye, tail wagging as if to say, Here I am.
“This,” said God, “is Dog. He will go with you.”
The soul tilted its head. “Dog?”
“Yes,” said God, “it is I spelled backwards. When you forget Me, when your heart is weary, look at him. He will remind you what love looks like.”
So the man and the dog leapt to Earth.
As the years passed, the man stumbled through the world through laughter and sorrow, through nights of thunder and days of golden fields. Sometimes he remembered his Maker. Sometimes he did not. But the dog was always there chasing butterflies, curling up beside him, licking tears from his face without asking why.
When the man hardened his heart, the dog still waited at the door.
When the man lost faith in people, the dog remained faithful.
When the man stopped praying, the dog kept watching the sky.
One day, as the man sat under a dying tree, old and tired, the dog laid his head in his lap. The man looked into the dog’s eyes deep, warm, endlessly forgiving and for the first time in years, he remembered the Light he once came from.
In that quiet gaze, the man saw more than fur and eyes and breath.
He saw mercy.
He saw grace.
He saw God.
And he wept.
