ADOPTED! 🩷 Meet Bayek, the Sphynx cat! Bayek is a social butterfly and I love everyone. He wastes no time being curious or nervous and loves to throw himself into everyone's arms. Bayek is an attentive cat that loves to receive and give attention, with plenty of hugs, headbutts and love. Bayek is happiest around people and doesn't show any reaction to cats of dogs. Bayek would be the perfect cat to a home looking for a lovebug just like him.

ADOPTION PROCESS: If you are interested in adopting from Second Chance SPCA, please come to our adoption center during business hours. Appointments are not required. Adopters will visit with an adoption counselor and complete a short application. Adopters must live within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and be at least 21 years old. Renters must provide proof of pet deposit and/or written permission by landlord to have a pet.

ADOPTION FEES: Includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, f***l, and heartworm test (dogs) or FeLV/FIV test (cats). All cats and dogs are current on heartworm and flea preventative. $250 for puppies under 6 months of age and $200 for dogs older than 6 months. $150 for kittens under 6 months of age and $125 for cats older than 6 months.

Our hearts go out to the McKinney Police Department and all who knew and loved K9 Officer Azi. Azi wasn’t just a K9—he was a loyal protector, a partner, and a hero who gave his life in the line of duty.

In Honor of Our Late Beloved Dr. Johnson 💜

On this International Women’s Day, we would like to take a moment to honor Dr. Johnson, the first African American female to graduate from Texas A&M Veterinary College in 1987. She was not only a trailblazer in the veterinary field, but she also touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege to know her.

Dr. Johnson was one of the most compassionate, sweet, and humble women you would ever meet. I personally had the honor of working alongside her and learning so much from her wisdom and grace. Anyone who worked with her at EPM would agree—her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

We honor you today and always, Dr. Johnson. You are missed dearly. 💕

In the 1980s, Dr. Dana Johnson and Dr. Cleveland Manley met at the , the only two African Americans in their class. What began as friendship turned into love (with some matchmaking by the then dean Dr. George C. Shelton) and they went on marry, have three sons, and spend their careers practicing veterinary medicine together.

Johnson was the first female African American Aggie veterinarian. She sadly passed away in 2018 and will be remembered for her dedication to her career, leadership, and kindness.
