Trotting into the week like a champion! 🐴💨💙

Look at Stevie Morris go! From turning around the barrels to keeping a steady trot, every ride builds confidence, independence, and new skills.

Practice makes progress, and this team is proving it one stride at a time. We are so proud of all the hard work and determination that goes into moments like these!

Give our Special Olympics rider a big 👏 in the comments!

Today is a bittersweet day at High Lonesome Therapeutic Equestrian Center as we say goodbye (for now!) to our incredible summer intern, Ellie Goins.

We can’t thank Ellie enough for all of her hard work and dedication over the past few months. She has spent countless hours serving as a horse leader and side walker during lessons, keeping our equine partners fit and happy through regular rides, and helping train our newest pony to ensure he is safe, confident, and enjoys his new job in our program.

Ellie has been an amazing addition to our team, and her kindness, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic have made a lasting impact on both our participants and our horses.

We will miss you so much as you head back to school, but we are so proud of everything you’ve accomplished. Thank you for being part of the High Lonesome family.

Please don’t stay away too long—we can’t wait to have you back! 💙🐴

🌧️ What do we do when it’s raining and too wet to ride? 🤔

We learn in a different way!

Today our riders took on a barn scavenger hunt, exploring the farm while building important life skills along the way. They practiced:
🐴 Learning about the barn and horse care
🔢 Counting
✍️ Reading and writing
🧩 Problem-solving
👥 Teamwork
😊 Confidence and independence

Therapeutic riding is so much more than what happens in the saddle. Every activity is designed to help our riders grow, learn, and succeed—even on rainy days!

Rain may have kept us out of the arena, but it certainly didn’t stop the learning! 💙🌧️

What an incredible night! 🏁🐴

Our hearts are full as we say thank you to Sugar Creek Raceway for welcoming High Lonesome Therapeutic Equestrian Center and allowing us to share our mission with such an amazing crowd. We are especially grateful to Rick, Todd, and the entire Sugar Creek Raceway family for your generosity, hospitality, and support.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, purchased 50/50 tickets, raffle tickets, or High Lonesome merchandise, made a donation, or simply took the time to learn about what we do. Your generosity will help us continue providing life-changing equine-assisted services to individuals with varying abilities while ensuring our incredible equine partners receive the exceptional care they deserve.

Tonight was a beautiful reminder of what makes our community so special. The kindness, encouragement, and support we receive from our neighbors never cease to amaze us. We are honored to be part of such a caring community, and we couldn’t do this without each and every one of you.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our mission and helping us continue changing lives—one ride, one horse, and one smile at a time. 💙🐎

Another hot summer week at High Lonesome! ☀️🐴

Our Special Olympics athletes spent the week practicing their trail pattern at both the walk and trot as they continue preparing for competition. Other riders focused on building their riding skills by practicing walk-halt transitions, trotting, and cantering.

Every ride is another opportunity to build confidence, improve skills, and make progress. We’re so proud of the hard work and determination our riders show each week—even in the summer heat! 💙❤️

Happy horses make the best partners. 🐴💚

A little turnout, a few scratches, good friends, and plenty of time to just be horses—it’s all part of keeping our equine partners happy and healthy.

Our horses give so much to our riders every day, so we make it a priority to give them the care, rest, and enrichment they deserve. Their physical and emotional well-being is at the heart of everything we do.

Thank you to everyone who helps us care for these incredible partners!!!

A huge thank you to the North Carolina Horse Council for their generous grant supporting High Lonesome Therapeutic Equestrian Center!

Because of your generosity, we were able to purchase new ASTM/SEI-certified riding helmets and rainbow reins for our program. These new helmets help keep our riders safe, while the rainbow reins provide colorful visual cues that help riders with hand placement, balance, and independence in the saddle.

Your support helps us continue providing a safe, inclusive, and high-quality therapeutic riding experience for every rider we serve. We are incredibly grateful for your investment in our riders, horses, and community.

Thank you, North Carolina Horse Council, for helping make a difference—one ride at a time! 💙🐴🌈
