Twin Rose Farm

Twin Rose Farm husband + wife - small cut flower farm 💐 farm stand (OPENING IN MAY)
wholesale available through Tn Cut Flower Co.

(FOLLOW ON IG) Twin Rose Farm is our small family farm located on five acres in Middle Tennessee. This year we will be selling high-quality cut flowers from May to October and tomato and bell pepper vegetable garden starts in late April. We are growing in greenhouses and fields. Our cut flowers grow in the front of our property. The greenhouses are in the middle and the orchard is over 2 acres in

the back. The greenhouses extend our growing season by several months. We are planning several additions to the flowers and starts. We’ve just planted our first fruit trees. We will hopefully have fruit for sale in a few years. We are also experimenting with growing herbs in the dry and warm greenhouse environment. Beyond growing flowers and food, we also want to engage with our community to learn and share knowledge of agriculture and nature. We want to be a part of preserving and expanding the collective art and science of plants. We love our little farm and what it will offer the world. Our focus is to provide the land with thoughtful and deliberate care so that it can do the same for us.

Lil white pumpkins at the farm stand :)) 🤍🤍

While I’ve been quite on here lately, it’s been anything but in our daily lives. School has started back, so we’ve been getting our four girls back in the swing of things. We are starting seeds for fall planted/ spring blooming flowers this weekend: most excited to be growing foxglove again. Starting to clear fields to prep for cover cropping. Lots of dried flower work!

Oh and a little pumpkin field trial, which is doing well so far. These cute little white ones are ready first and are available at our farm stand!

Hey guys! We are in between our late summer and early fall crops. We are closing the farm stand this weekend to continue prepping and planting for fall flowers. We hope to be open next weekend and will keep you updated.

Thank you to everyone who has visited us at the farm! And thank you for being patient as we learn how to be a smaller farm without experiencing lulls. 💓💛💓

Gomphrena….

Little balls of whimsy! I love gomphrena! Crazy enough, I’ve had one heck of a time getting this flower to grow this year. Germination was hit or miss, with many trouble shooting methods to get good rates. Not sure if I had old seed or what, but I finally had a good round of transplants and a good crop!

These cuties will be in all the mixed bouquets at the farm stand this weekend, along with lots of other colorful flowers.

Farm stand open Friday Saturday Sunday 8-dark. 💛💛💛💛

Harvesting some new flowers this week- gomphrena, rudbeckia, celosia, and cute varieties of zinnias from —-

We are deep in plan making for next year’s growing season. There are many things that we want/need to change for an easier season. This year getting back into things has at times felt like our first year growing. Getting the land and tunnels back in good shape has been challenging.

We plan to grow less, but more intentional. Mostly just growing all the things that I really enjoy working with and are not too finicky. With us both having our “regular” jobs, to continue growing will require some changes.

Here’s to planning a grow that won’t bloom for 8-12 months—- 😁😁😁

July….

If I told you it’s been an easy month, I’d be lying. July has always been my least favorite month to have a farm to be honest. It’s typically when I start thinking what the hell am I doing with my life. I think it’s mostly the heat that gets me every year. But it doesn’t help that July is known to be a slow time for flower sales. (Unless you have a good summer market.)

We are grateful for our regular customers that we are slowly starting to build back up! The farm stand has been a learning curve trying to figure out the logistics of quantity needed and varieties desired. It’s been a fun experiment for us these past few months.

We are starting to plan for next year’s flower field plan, which is my favorite part-planning what we will grow, where they will be planted, flowers that were trialed that will stay or go, and how we plan on selling our flowers.

Anywho… the farm stand will be open today with some different mixes and grower bundles. 💛💛💛

Scabiosa (or pincushion)…

One of the hardest flowers to harvest, but oh so beautiful. It took about 30 minutes to harvest this amount of scabiosa.

When harvested at the right stage, she can last up to 10 days post harvest. (Harvest when the outside just barely start to open) Fully open scabiosa last about 5 days post harvest and is great for wholesale orders.

I really do love zinnias.

They are known to be a common garden flower, but I love finding unique varieties and the “special” ones to harvest and use in bouquets.

I’m very particular when I harvest all the flowers in the field. I try to get the unique blooms (large and small), beautiful colors, and high quality.

Today I’m harvesting: zinnias, double cosmos, scabiosa, feverfew, blushing lanterns, Ageratum, strawflower, seeded dahlias, mountain mint 💛💛💛

Lunaria…

Or money plant.. a dear friend let me “harvest” out of her garden today.

I had responded to her when I was picking up ceramic vases from her, oh you have lunaria. This started a bond. If you are in the garden world, you know this feeling. Immediate friends.

Anywho, I harvested and two of my daughters helped process it. (Which is not an easy task!) final result (first picture.)

Makes me think of .g.harmon letting me cut hellebore from her garden until the seedlings in my garden had matured enough to harvest from.

Farm/garden friends are the best!

So let’s see if this 2 year process of starting it will produce a beautiful harvest on our farm.
