We, at the Alger County Animal Shelter, are celebrating a great KICK OFF to the Alger County Animal Shelter’s Outside Dog Kennel Fundraiser!

A great big THANK YOU for the very generous donations from Henry Gendron, VMD, and Mary Lee Gendron and family; and Margretta Larson and family, In Memory of Nan Taube and Richard Bornslaeger, toward the KICK OFF of the Alger County Animal Shelter’s Outside Dog Kennel Fundraiser.

Last year, Mark and Nancy Troudt donated $10,000 to the Alger County Animal Shelter’s Inside Kennel Project! Which brought us to completion of the Inside Kennels, and was a huge success.

The Alger County Animal Shelter operates solely on donations and we want to give a great big shout out and thank you to all who are making it possible to meet our Mission of continuing to be a No-Kill, No Time Limit Animal Shelter here in Alger County!

Thank you so much to these wonderful donors for donating to our kennel projects.

If you would like to make a donation to the Alger County Animal Shelter Outside Kennel Project, you can make a donation through PayPal or you can send us a check/money order directly to: Alger County Animal Shelter, PO Box 532, Munising, MI 49862. Please designate that your donation is to go toward the ACAS Outside Kennel Fundraiser, and please make sure your address is up-to-date so, when we send you a tax receipt/thank you letter, we can be sure this goes to the correct address. THANK YOU for helping us to continue to save lives!

Looking for a foster family for this sweet girl. She’s very stressed from living with several other cats and has been licking herself excessively. She was recently spayed, had rabies shot, and first dose of Revolution. Please contact the shelter if you can help us out.

We love our pupdates! Ackerly (Now Rosie) is living her best life ever. Here is an update from Rosie's family: " We adopted Ackerly a few years ago who is now Rosie.

Rosie recently got a new brother after losing her sister Zoey. Here are a few pictures of her and Benny.

She immediately took to him. He is a rescue from OCAPS. Rosie is thriving and very happy with her new "boyfriend". She let him groom her the whole way home...which is unheard for her!

Thank you to our volunteers, our donors and adopters/fosters who make this all possible in helping us continue to be a no-kill, no time-limit animal shelter here in Alger County!

Today is National Rescue Dog Day!

How You Can Celebrate
There are plenty of ways to get involved and honor rescue dogs in your community, whether you are ready to bring a new pet home or not:

Adopt or Foster: If you are ready for a pet, consider visiting a local shelter to give a rescue dog a forever home or applying to become a foster family.

Donate Supplies: Shelters are always in need of high-demand items like dog food, blankets, toys, and cleaning supplies.

Volunteer: Many shelters rely on volunteers to walk dogs, clean kennels, or assist with administrative tasks.

Advocate: Use the day to spread awareness by sharing posts on social media about adoptable dogs in your local area.

Hyacinth and Zinnia recently had litters of kittens that they’re raising together & are in need of a foster home to keep them relaxed and healthy! 🌸🪻
There is a total of 6 kittens and 2 moms needing temporary placement. Zinnia had her babies (4) 4-5wks ago and Hyacinth (2) shortly after.

**Bonus points if you can help in taking cute photos of them when they’re big enough to find their own families!

If interested in helping, please fill out a volunteer/foster application:

Hey mojointhemorn! Long time listeners…first time callers! We hear you were talking about “manly” activities on the air and suggested “bringing back dogfighting”.

Ope. Yikes.

Wait til you hear what we have to tell you…(you may want to have a seat).

Not only is dogfighting alive and well in the city of Detroit and well…your entire vast listening area, it’s far from “manly”.

Things that dogfighting is?

* Felonious in all 50 states.
* A heinous blood sport consisting of r**e, torture, starvation, dehydration, lack of medical care, and cruel deaths of sentient beings for the financial and egotistical gain of their owners.
* Not at all frickin’ masculine, sexy, or desirable if you ask us.

So to add to the conversation, we would like to offer up a series of posts to educate you on what IS manly…brought to you man to man…from the men at Bark Nation 😮‍💨

Let’s start it off with…oh I don’t know…

RESCUING DOGS FROM THEIR LIVES OF DOGFIGHTING 🥵

::brown chicken brown cow::

A man who is willing to cut a chain off of a dog and carry it from a life of bloodsport to one of safety is where 👏🏻 it’s 👏🏻 at 👏🏻.

If you want to sit down with us and learn more, we’re here! Until then…we will continue to educate you via our socials on what “manly” activities with dogs looks like ;)

For anyone reading this that would like to help us spread the word about dogfighting and cut more chains, please consider sharing this post, becoming a monthly donor, or making a one time donation today!
