🦴 Keep candy out of reach — chocolate and xylitol (found in sugar-free treats) can be toxic to pets.
🕯️ Watch those decorations — curious paws and wagging tails can knock over candles or chew on cords.
🚪 Secure your doors — trick-or-treat traffic can make it easy for frightened pets to slip outside.

A little caution can keep the night full of treats, not tricks, for your four-legged family members. 🐾💛

With winter around the corner, it’s time once again for the 6th Annual Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein, Vernon Hills, Kildeer (GLMV Chamber of Commerce) Coat Drive for Vets, the largest local coat drive with some 40+ collection locations.

We are now accepting donations for gently used and new winter coats, jackets, and other seasonal outerwear. These items will be provided to our local veterans in need and their families through Midwest Veteran’s Closet (MVC), a not-for-profit charity that provides free clothing and other items to our former soldiers, and others.

Our winter coat collection for veterans is a great way to show our support and thank our vets for their amazing service!

Donations can be dropped off at 1385 Townline Road, Mundelein, IL, 60060, now through November 15, 2025.

🚨 If your dog or cat is hit by a car, every minute matters.

Here’s what to do right away:
1️⃣ Stay calm and keep yourself safe. Approach carefully. Even the gentlest pet may bite or scratch when scared or hurt.
2️⃣ Move your pet out of traffic using a blanket or towel as a stretcher if needed.
3️⃣ Keep them warm and as still as possible. Movement can worsen internal injuries or fractures.
4️⃣ Do not give food, water, or medications unless directed by a veterinarian.
5️⃣ Head to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital immediately. Even if your pet seems okay, internal injuries or shock may not be visible right away.

Accidents happen in an instant but getting quick veterinary care can make all the difference. ❤️‍🩹

🍂 Fall is a beautiful season but it comes with hidden hazards for pets! 🍂

As the leaves change, many families enjoy seasonal foods and decorations that can be dangerous for pets if ingested. Common culprits include:
🌽 Corn cobs
🍖 Bones
🕯️ Decorative items like small ornaments

Ingesting these items can lead to serious blockages, choking, or gastrointestinal issues. If your pet shows vomiting, lethargy, or signs of discomfort, don’t wait, seek veterinary care immediately.

Keep your pets safe this season by storing food and decorations out of reach, and always supervise them around new seasonal items!

🐾 Meet Sceolan, a sweet 5-year-old Golden Retriever who recently paid us a visit after getting into a whole bag of chocolate! 🍫😅

She couldn’t have been happier to be here with tail wags, big smiles, and instant friendships with our entire team. 💛

Dr. Snyder recommended inducing vomiting, but no chocolate or wrappers showed up, which means Sceolan likely enjoyed her “snack” a few days earlier and was feeling just fine by the time she arrived.

We’re so glad this chocolate-loving pup is doing great and we’re sure her family is keeping the sweets well out of reach now! 🐕💕

This month is a reminder of the important role we all play in keeping pets safe, healthy, and happy. From proper nutrition and regular veterinary care to safe environments and gentle handling, every little step helps protect the animals we love.

Meet Corrie! 💕 She came to see us on Friday evening for some facial swelling that turned out to be an allergic reaction. After a little TLC and some medication, she was back to her happy self in no time and absolutely thrilled to make new friends during her visit! 🐾😊

Fall brings beautiful color and a few seasonal hazards for our pets. 🍂 Some mushrooms and plants that appear this time of year can be toxic if ingested.

Watch out for wild mushrooms like Amanita, Galerina, and Lepiota, which can cause severe liver damage. Decorative plants such as autumn crocus, chrysanthemums, and oak leaves or acorns can also lead to vomiting, drooling, or more serious symptoms.

Keep curious noses and paws away from unfamiliar plants and mushrooms, and call us or your veterinarian immediately if your pet shows any signs of illness.

🐾 Recognizing When Pets Need Emergency Care 🐾

Pets can’t tell us when something is wrong, so it’s important to recognize the warning signs that require urgent attention. Some situations that often warrant an emergency visit include:

✅ Respiratory distress: Difficulty breathing, persistent coughing, or wheezing

✅ Gastrointestinal emergencies: Severe vomiting or diarrhea, especially with blood

✅ Trauma: Injuries from accidents, falls, or fights

✅ Neurologic issues: Seizures, collapse, or sudden disorientation

✅ Mobility problems: Sudden limping, inability to stand, or severe pain

✅ Abdominal emergencies: Swelling, bloating, or signs of discomfort

✅ Ingestion of toxins: Eating plants, medications, or other harmful substances

Understanding these signs helps ensure pets receive timely care when their health is at risk. When in doubt, it’s always safest to seek emergency veterinary care.

🌟 Meet Dr. Josan, BVSc, AH 🌟

Dr. Josan grew up in a close-knit community in Canada, where his love for animals and nature began on his family’s farm and flower fields. His passion for caring for pets led him to earn his veterinary degree at G.A.D.V.A.S.U in India before obtaining licenses to practice in both Canada and the U.S.

With experience as a small animal general practitioner in California and advanced training through an emergency medicine internship at Premier Chicago, Dr. Josan brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to every patient he sees. His professional interests include anesthesiology, pain management, internal medicine, and preventative care. 🐾

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Josan enjoys gardening, movie marathons, video games, and spending time with his loved ones. 💙
