Today's Post will be a little different, we will be talking about anxiety in dogs and why it is important to notice the signs and take action.
Telltale signs of anxiety are excessive barking, fast shallow breathing, inability to focus, and/or fixating on one thing. Dogs can also become anxious if they are introduced to a new place, meet another animal, or generally have too much stimuli at one time. Some tips to help reduce anxiety are:
1) Playing calming music, such as mellow instrumentals or classical
2) Giving them physical affection, such as cuddling or gentle petting
3) Exercise can help dogs take their mind off the stressful situation while also tiring them out. A dog may be stressed simply because of a lack of exercise in their schedule.
4)Healthy distraction, like a toy or a treat can break the dogs focus on what is stressing them out.
5)The dog may just need some alone time from other dogs.
