We're constantly committing to improving the farm! Our goal is for a safe turnout area that's built for what horses need. No more t-posts in our drylots!

Let's talk about barn dogs! It's hard to find a barn that doesn't have some kind of pup running around! Our barn has Zoë, a German Shepherd! Barn dogs come in many shapes and sizes and have a variety of jobs. Zoë's jobs include:
- alerting to strange animals on property
- helping herd loose horses on command
- companionship & resident barn greeter

Zoë is super friendly and loves meeting new people! Just be sure she doesn't jump in your car!

Why do we have a dog? Partly for security due to coyotes, loose dogs and other potential predators, but mostly because she serves an excellent role in getting training horses used to dogs running up and barking around them while being worked!

You will probably see Zoë wandering around in circles, why is that? It's a style of herding! German Shepherds herd and guard in a style called "tending". Basically they act like a living fence when they know the property lines!

Lesson Horse appreciation post (3/5).

Name: Frada
Registered name: Circle F Fradas Flair
Breed: Morgan
Color: Bay
Age: 21
Favorite treat: Sweet potatoes & sour patch kids
Favorite brush: the curry comb right under her chin
Fun fact: Frada is the mom of Ripley! She also does a great job being a nanny to any yearlings and 2 year olds that come in for training.

Frada joined our program in 2022 as a broodmare who also gave advanced riding lessons. In 2024 she foaled out Ripley and took some well needed time off from being a lesson horse. Now that she is retired from breeding she is rejoining our program as a lesson horse for advanced riders in huntseat and saddleseat.

Lesson Horse appreciation post (2/5).

Name: Joey
Breed: unknown
Color: Pinto
Age: 7
Favorite treat: ANYTHING
Favorite brush: the stiff brush
Fun fact: Joey was trained here as a 2 year old and was sold to us when he turned 4.

Joey has been with us since 2020. He'scurrently our only lesson horse who does driving! Our lovely advanced riders have been helping train him to ride and so far he's off the opinion he only wants to give leadline lessons! He doesn't know a stranger and is always looking for snacks!

Feel free to share fun memories of Joey in the comments!

Lesson Horse appreciation post (1/5).

Name: Promise
Breed: Quarter Horse/ Morgan
Age: 16
Favorite treat: Apples
Favorite brush: the curry comb (especially under her mane!)
Fun fact: Promise is from Texas, and has been well traveled throughout most of the midwest!

Promise has been with us since 2023. She's the superstar of giving beginner through advance lessons. English or western our girl does it all and is always game for a treat afterwards! She can be a bit spicy at shows so our more advanced riders show her there.

Feel free to share fun memories of Promise in the comments!

To kick off the launch of this page it seems only right to give the first few posts to the main employees that make it all possible: the lesson horses. My business would not be what it is without these great horses. These horses work hard, they take care of my students, they love their jobs, and they teach more than I ever could! A lesson horse is quite simply, the best horse. So this coming week we'll be sharing posts highlighting each of our lesson horses.
