🐾 June is National Pet Preparedness Month 🐾

When emergencies happen, being prepared can make all the difference for you and your pet.

Take a few minutes this month to make sure you have:
-- Updated ID tags and microchip information
-- Copies of your pet's medical records
--A pet emergency kit with food, medications, and supplies
-- A plan for evacuation or temporary housing
-- Emergency contact information for your veterinarian

No one expects an emergency, but having a plan in place can help keep your pet safe and reduce stress when every minute counts.

What’s one thing you've done to prepare for an emergency with your pet? Share in the comments below.

🐾 After 13 years together, Widget’s story wasn’t ready to end.

For years, Widget had adapted to losing vision in one eye, continuing to enjoy life beside the person who loved him most. But when his eye suddenly ruptured and began to hemorrhage, everything changed.

At Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG), Widget’s owner learned he needed urgent surgery to relieve his pain and save his quality of life. Without financial support, she feared she was out of options.

“Without the help, I was looking at euthanasia,” she shared.

With support from Sage Compassion for Animals and the compassionate care of the VEG team, Widget received the surgery he needed. Today, he’s healing well, back home, comfortable, and still very much himself. 💛

Stories like Widget’s are possible because compassion steps in when families need it most, helping pets stay with the people who love them. Donate today: www.sagec4a.org/Donate

Thank you to the compassionate team at Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) for helping make Widget’s second chance possible.

🐾 We’re proud to share that Sage Compassion for Animals founders, Dr. Julie Smith and Dr. Lissa Richardson, were invited by the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) to present a continuing education seminar for veterinarians and veterinary teams across California.

Drawing from more than 25 years of experience as veterinary surgeons and the impactful work Sage Compassion for Animals has led over the past six years, they spoke about how veterinary teams can help provide compassionate, high-quality care to families facing financial barriers.

Their presentation focused on real-world strategies for supporting pets and the people who love them , ensuring that financial hardship doesn’t automatically mean losing access to lifesaving care.

We’re honored to contribute to these important conversations within the veterinary community and grateful to the CVMA for the opportunity to share Sage Compassion for Animals mission and experience with veterinary professionals statewide.

🐾 “We can’t imagine a day without his fluffy orange presence.”

Clyde has been part of his family’s life for more than seven years. Rescued as a young kitten, he’s been there through college, first apartments, the birth of a son, and even a cross-country move from Maine to California.

He’s more than a pet, he’s a constant source of comfort. The kind of cat who always seems to know when someone needs a little extra love, offering cuddles, gentle nudges, and a steady purr at just the right moment.

Then suddenly, everything changed.

After several days of vomiting and refusing food and water, Clyde was rushed in for emergency care. Doctors discovered a dangerous intestinal obstruction that required urgent surgery.

For his family, the thought of losing him felt unimaginable.

With support from Sage Compassion for Animals, Clyde was able to receive the lifesaving surgery he needed — giving his family more time with the cat who has been there through every chapter of their lives.

Today, Clyde is home recovering, back where he belongs. Stories like Clyde’s are possible because compassion shows up when families need it most. Donate today: www.sagec4a.org/donate

🩷 Because of you, we did it. 🐾

Together, this incredible community raised $34,500 during our Spring into Second Chances campaign to help pets receive urgent veterinary care and stay with the families who love them.

Every donation, no matter the size, made a difference. Thank you for believing that no one should have to choose between finances and the pet they love.

We are endlessly grateful for this community and all the compassion you continue to show pets and their families.

The work continues, and because of you, so do the second chances.

🐾 We still need your help to reach our $30,000 Spring Campaign goal.

Because of compassionate supporters like you, pets like Rocco, Nena, Ginger, Lola, and Hestia received the lifesaving care they needed to stay with the families who love them most.

Each of these pets faced a critical medical emergency.
Each family faced fear, uncertainty, and impossible decisions.

And because people chose to help, their stories became second chances instead of heartbreak.

But there are still more families waiting for help this month.

Every donation helps another pet receive urgent care and stay right where they belong: with their families. https://buff.ly/lcAlbBZ

We’re almost there.

Together, this community has raised more than $27,500 toward our goal to help 25 pets get the urgent veterinary care they need to stay with the families who love them.

Now, we just need one final push.

Right now, we’re only $2,500 away from reaching our goal, and thanks to a generous match from Sage Compassion for Animals board member Melissa Hollatz, every gift still goes twice as far.

There are so many ways to help:
🐾 Make a one-time donation
🐾 Become a monthly donor through our Furry Friends Circle of Care
🐾 Make a tribute gift in honor or memory of someone special

Every donation helps us say “yes” to another pet in crisis.
Every act of compassion helps keep a family together.

Help us finish strong and reach the final $2,500.

🐾 “Princess has brought so much love into our home.”

Princess came into her family’s life during a time of grief, just months after the loss of a beloved cat of 15 years. With her cuddles, playful spirit, and sweet personality, she slowly helped bring joy back into the home.

She became family quickly, not just to her owner, but to children and grandchildren who adored her. When the family brought home a kitten, Princess cared for him like he was her own. You could almost always find them curled up together.

Then one day, Princess became seriously ill. She stopped eating, grew weak, and was diagnosed with pyometra, a life-threatening infection requiring emergency surgery.

For her owner, the thought of losing Princess during an already difficult season felt unbearable.

With support from Sage Compassion for Animals, Princess was able to receive the life-saving care she needed. Today, she’s healing at home, back to cuddles, playtime, and the family who loves her deeply.

We’re so close.

Together, this community has raised $19,500 to help pets get the urgent care they need to stay with the families who love them. 💚

With a $5,000 match still available, we’re now just about $5,000 away from our $30,000 goal, what it takes to help 25 pets this month.

More than 50 donations have already come in.
This is what it looks like when a community shows up.

Now we just need a final push. Every dollar you give today is matched, helping us reach more pets, faster.

Help us finish what we started. Donate & double your impact. https://buff.ly/1BHuoUe
