*Update: Adopted!*

If you’ve been searching for a dog that is 10% legs, 50% ears, and 40% pure drama, look no further. Nellie is officially available for adoption.

Nellie is approximately 5 years old, 36 lbs, and is believed to be a purebred Basset Hound. She is a loveable lowrider, who enjoys attention and scratches. She is good with kids, other dogs, and so far only bays at the cat (the cat does not approve). She walks well on a leash, though she's not up for long adventures.

Nellie came to us with the worst flea infestation I have ever seen. She has been given flea/tick treatment, and no longer has fleas, but her skin is going to need some time to recover from being so irritated. She is fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and ready for her new forever family. She will need to be spayed within 30 days of adoption.

It is $25 to give Nellie a home. If you would like to meet her, please call Animal Control at 417-926-5181.

Who is looking for a goofy Golden?
Ruby is a funny, sweet, and quiet girl in need of a forever home. Here's what we know about her:
Ruby is believed to be a purebred Golden Retriever, right around 1 year old (maybe a little less than a year). She is gentle, kind, and loveable... Exactly what you would expect out of a golden. She came in with another dog and has done great with that dog, but we haven't been able to introduce her to any other dogs. She has been around children and did great. She will chase cats.

Unfortunately, whoever abandoned this girl has also beat her, so she is a little scared of fast movements and may try to hide if she thinks she's going to get hurt. She's also shy when she first meets someone. I have been working with her on understanding that she will never be hit again, and she has opened up so much in just the week she's been here, I have no doubt that a gentle hand and some time will completely bring her out of that mentality.

Ruby walks well on a leash and loves to get her collar put on. She has already learned her name, and gets really excited to be called "Ruby Roo." With a little bit of time and patience, this girl is going to be a phenomenal family dog.

Ruby is currently in heat, and will need to be separated from any intact males. She must be spayed within 30 days of adoption. She has been vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and is microchipped.

It is $25 to adopt Ruby. If you are interested in meeting her please call Animal Control at 417-926-5181.

🐾 EXTREME HEAT ALERT 🐾

The prolonged high temperatures we are expected to endure this week are extremely dangerous for pets. When extreme heat lasts for days, animals cannot cool down, putting them at a very high risk of heatstroke, permanent organ damage, or death.

Please follow these critical safety rules:

❄️Bring Them Inside: AC is best! Never keep dogs in a shed or garage—they lack airflow and quickly turn into fatal ovens.
🛖A dog house is not enough: A dog house in direct sunlight is not sufficient and can trap heat. Plastic dog houses especially absorb heat and block airflow. If they are outside, they need continuous, heavy shade and proper ventilation all day.
🚗No Dogs in Hot Cars: Leaving a dog in a hot car in this heat is neglect/abuse and will be treated as such. If you can't bring them inside with you or keep the AC running for them, leave them at home. Keep in mind that while you may leave your vehicle running and AC on, some newer cars will automatically turn off after 15 minutes of idling. It's always best to leave pets home if they can't be with you.
🐕‍🦺Beware Hot Pavement: Asphalt burns paw pads. The 7-Second Rule: If you can't comfortably hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it's too hot. Walk only on grass during the cooler parts of the day.
💧Fresh Water: Provide constant, clean, fresh water. Stagnant, dirty water is unacceptable.
❗High-Risk Pets: Puppies, senior dogs, overweight dogs, and brachiecephalic breeds (like Pugs and Bulldogs) are at the highest risk for fatal heatstroke.
🩺Signs of Heatstroke: Heavy panting, bright red gums, thick drool, weakness, or stumbling. If suspected, bring them inside and see a vet immediately.

Thank you for keeping Mountain Grove's four-legged community members safe, happy, and cool! Don't forget to check on your neighbors, and everybody stay safe out there.

*Update: Adopted!*

Certified good girl alert!! Katy is looking for a home.

Katy is believed to be a Labrador Retriever. She is estimated at 4-5 years old, large size, and is truly a gem.

Katy has been super friendly with everyone she's met. She walks amazingly on a leash and doesn't pull at all. She can sit, shake, and comes to her name. She loves to go for rides in the car, play fetch, go swimming, and she is potty trained. She seems to do just fine with the cat, she will need to be the only dog.

Katy is vaccinated, treated for fleas/ticks, dewormed, microchipped, and ready to load up and go to her new forever family.

It is $25 to adopt Katy. She must be spayed within 30 days.

If you would like to meet her, please call Animal Control at 417-926-5181.

*Update: Owner has been notified*

A black and white female husky puppy, estimated at 4-5 months old and wearing the collar pictured below was found near the intersection of S Wall and Front St.

We have reached out to the vet where she received her rabies vaccine, and the City of Cabool where she was licensed. We have not yet been able to make contact with her owner.

Unfortunately she was critically injured when found and had to be humanely euthanized. We will keep her remains for 3 days in hopes we can make contact with her owner.

If you believe this was your puppy, please call Mountain Grove Animal Control at 417-926-5181 to claim her remains.

We are very sorry for your loss.
