At Rocket Dog Academy, we believe every dog has the potential to be their best self, and we’re here to make that happen. Meet Marty and Fozzy two shining examples of dedication and progress.

Marty is currently working on his diligence with the “place” command, showing off his ability to stay focused and calm. Fozzy, on the other hand, is mastering the art of handling distractions. He’s been doing an amazing job not barking at new people and dogs. After training, both of these adorable pups were patiently waiting in our safety stroller to be picked up by their mom. 🐶💕

Ready to see what your dog can achieve? Whether it’s fine-tuning basic obedience or tackling more complex behaviors, we’re here to help. 🏆

What to Do If Your Dog Overheats (Heatstroke Protocol)

Overheating can be life-threatening for dogs—especially in summer. Here’s what to do immediately if you suspect your dog is suffering from heatstroke.

🚨 Know the Signs of Overheating
• Excessive panting or drooling
• Bright red gums or tongue
• Lethargy or unsteadiness
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Collapse or seizures

🌡 Check Their Temperature
• A dog’s normal temp is 100.5°F – 102.5°F
• Over 104°F = Danger Zone
• 106°F+ = Life-Threatening Emergency

🛑 Act Fast — Cool the Dog Down (But Safely!)
1. Move to Shade or A/C Immediately
Get your dog out of the heat and into a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned area.
2. Wet with Cool (NOT Cold) Water
Use towels, a hose, or soak the dog with cool water—focus on the belly, armpits, inner thighs, and paw pads. Avoid ice or freezing temps (this causes blood vessels to constrict and traps heat).
3. Place a Fan Nearby
Air movement helps evaporate water from the dog’s body, increasing cooling.
4. Use Rubbing Alcohol on Paw Pads
Apply 70% isopropyl alcohol to the pads of the feet using a cotton ball or paper towel. This evaporates quickly and helps pull heat—but use sparingly and only on the pads, not broken skin.
5. Offer Small Sips of Cool Water
Don’t force it. If your dog won’t drink, just continue cooling and get to a vet.
6. Monitor Temperature
Stop active cooling when your dog’s temp hits 103°F—continuing beyond that can cause hypothermia.

🚑 Get to the Vet Immediately
Even if your dog seems better, internal damage can occur. Heatstroke can cause:
• Brain swelling
• Organ failure
• Blood clotting issues

🧰 Pro Tip: Keep a re**al thermometer, alcohol wipes, towels, and water in your car or first aid kit during summer outings.

🚨 Ball Safety Reminder 🚨

Meet Lockett! He lives for ball time — but did you know the wrong ball size can be life-threatening?

We chose a larger ball for Lockett on purpose — because of how he catches and holds it. A smaller ball could easily get lodged in his throat, especially during high-energy play or water time. 🏀

🧠 TIP FOR DOG OWNERS:
Always pick a ball that’s larger than your dog’s windpipe — especially for power chewers or dogs who gulp toys mid-play. Avoid smooth, slippery balls that can act like a plug in the throat.

✅ Best options:
• Vented balls with holes (like the one shown)
• Oversized or oblong toys
• Rubber balls designed specifically for dogs (not tennis balls)

🎆🐾 4th of July Safety Tips for Your Pup! 🐾🎆

We know how much you love celebrating the 4th of July the fireworks, the BBQs, the good vibes. But for your dog? Not so much. The loud noises and flashing lights can be really overwhelming for them.

So here’s what I recommend to make sure your dog has a safe and calm holiday:

1️⃣ Create a Safe Space: Set up a cozy corner or crate where your dog can feel secure and relax away from the noise. Throw in some favorite toys and treats!

2️⃣ Walk Them Early: Get in some exercise before the fireworks start so they’re tired and more likely to snooze through the festivities. 🐕

3️⃣ Turn on Calming Music: Use soft music or white noise to drown out the sound of fireworks. It’ll help mask the loud booms and soothe your dog’s nerves.

4️⃣ No Fireworks Shows for Fidos: While fireworks are beautiful, they can be terrifying for dogs. Keep your pup safe inside, away from the crowds.

5️⃣ Stay Calm, They’ll Follow: If you're relaxed, your dog will feel it too. Keep things chill and show them everything is just another ordinary day!

At Rocket Dog Academy, we understand how sensitive pups can be to these kinds of events, and we're here to help make their 4th of July a little less stressful. If you ever need advice or extra training to help with fireworks anxiety, don't hesitate to reach out!

🎇 Stay safe and enjoy the holiday with your best friend by your side! 💙🐕

Distractions? Handled.
Fly’s recall game is getting tighter every session because a reliable “come” could be the difference between chaos and control.

Enzo’s on a mission to master place.
We’re adding just the right amount of back pressure to build resistance and sharpen that impulse control. No more breaking position just because life gets exciting.

This is what real training looks like tailored, intentional, results-driven.
Whether you're starting from scratch or leveling up, we’ve got you.
