The countdown is on! Our Cowboy Challenge is this Saturday, August 1st, and we're getting the course ready!

Obstacle setup begins TODAY (Monday)! As obstacles are placed, you'll be able to see many of them listed on the pattern sheet. We can't wait to watch everyone tackle this year's course!

KCHP Members: Don't forget—your membership gives you access to the obstacle course throughout the week (when the arena isn't being used for scheduled events). This is the perfect opportunity to come out, let your horse see the obstacles, build confidence, and get some practice in before Saturday!

Which Division Should You Enter?

To keep competition fair for everyone:
🐎 Novice Division is for beginner riders who are new to Cowboy Challenge and still building confidence and experience.

🐎 Open Division is for experienced riders who can confidently complete more challenging obstacles independently.

If you're unsure which division to enter, we encourage you to move up rather than down to help preserve the integrity of the Novice division.

A Few Important Rules

✔️ Entry fee: $20 per run
✔️ 30 seconds to engage each obstacle before moving on.
✔️ Follow the numbered course exactly—going off course results in a no time.
✔️ Horses may only compete once per class, but riders may compete on multiple horses.
✔️ Sound tack is required.
✔️ No lame or injured horses.
✔️ No excessive whipping or spurring.
✔️ No foul language.
✔️ No dogs on the grounds.
✔️ Horses are not permitted near the concession stand, entry booth, or bleachers.
✔️ All participants must sign a liability waiver.

Scoring

Each obstacle is scored 0–10 points based on:
• Horsemanship
• Control
• Responsiveness
• Manners
• Smooth entry and exit

Skipping an obstacle results in a 0 for that obstacle.

Dress Code

👕 Long or short sleeve collared button-up shirt
👖 Jeans or breeches
👢 Western or English boots
🤠 Cowboy hat (optional) or helmet (highly recommended for riders 18 & under)
🚫 No ball caps
✔️ Chaps or chinks are optional.

Whether you're trying Cowboy Challenge for the first time or you're a seasoned competitor, this event is all about building trust, confidence, and teamwork with your horse while having a great time.

We can't wait to see everyone this Saturday! Who's ready to conquer the gate, bridges, tarp, cowboy curtain, slicker, and everything else we've got in store?

Full Moon Ride Reminder!

The forecast is calling for moonlight, good friends, and great trails! Join us Wednesday, July 29, for our Full Moon Ride at the Knox County Horse Park.

Potluck & Fellowship: Starts at 7:30 PM in the campground. Bring a dish to share (if you'd like) and enjoy some time visiting before we saddle up. Hot dogs will be provided.

Feel free to hit the trails before the group ride. We'll all gather back together and head out as a group at 9:30 PM... you know, when the moon finally clocks in for its shift!

Whether you're coming for the food, the fellowship, the ride, or all three, we'd love to see you there.

🇺🇸❤️ HIGH POINT SHOW BENEFIT FOR OFFICER JOHN COX & FAMILY ❤️🇺🇸

On July 11th, we’re coming together at the Knox County Horse Park for more than just a horse show—we’re coming together for one of our own.

Many in our community know Mount Vernon Police Officer John Cox for his years of dedicated service. John currently serves as a K9 Officer with the Mount Vernon Police Department and has faithfully served our communities for many years, previously serving with the Danville Police Department and as Chief of the Martinsburg Police Department.

But beyond the badge, John is a devoted husband to Rachel and a loving father to five children: Ashton, Carson, Evan, Jace, and Lane. His family has always been at the center of everything he does.

Today, John is facing the biggest fight of his life. He was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Sarcoma that has spread to his liver and has begun chemotherapy treatments.

Every entry, every spectator, and every donation will help support John and his family during this difficult journey.

🐴 Ranch Division begins at 9:30 AM
🏇 Contesting Division begins at 1:00 PM
📍 Knox County Horse Park
📅 Saturday, July 11th

Whether you come to ride, watch, donate, or simply show your support, we invite our community to stand behind John and his family.

He has spent his career serving and protecting others. Now it’s our turn to serve him.
