HALIFAX, Massachusetts-Sunday, June 16, 2024
Fieldstone Show Park officials were made aware on the afternoon of Sunday, June 16th at 1:45 pm that a horse in Tent B presented with a low-grade fever of 102.4 and mild incoordination. In an abundance of caution in conjunction with FSP Show Management, Show Veterinarian Dr. Heather Beach and the State Veterinarian, the horse was removed from the show grounds and transported to Tufts Veterinary Hospital for testing, isolation and observation. No other horses from that barn are presenting with any symptoms. Together with the State Veterinarian, FSP Show Management has placed Tent B in a precautionary quarantine in accordance with FSP established biosecurity protocols which includes a perimeter fence around Tent B with full time security and biosecurity measures. Horses that were on the property and have since left must self-quarantine and be monitored for symptoms per the State Veterinarian until results have come back.
We ask that everyone remain committed to practicing and enforcing biosecurity measures within their own barn.
-Take temperatures of all horses twice daily and maintain a temperature log. Any horse with an elevated temperature or signs of neurological disease should be reported to Dr. Heather Beach and FSP Show Management immediately.
-Isolate any horse exhibiting symptoms and report any cases to Dr. Heather Beach and FSP Show Management.
-Grooms/Handlers wash their hands in between handling horses.
-No nose-to-nose contact between horses.
Under the guidance of USEF and the State Veterinarian, horse showing for FSP June II will continue as of the time of this press release. Thank you for your diligence in consideration while we await further diagnostics. We extend our heartfelt wishes for a complete recovery and offer our continued support for those impacted.
