We rescued sweet Cassie lin heartbreaking condition. 💔 The shelter could only keep her for a few more hours because she was sick beyond what they have resources to treat.

Cassie is severely underweight, weighing just half of what she should, and she was filthy and covered in fleas.

She’s is now receiving daily fluids, medication, and the care she desperately needs. Despite everything she’s been through, she is incredibly sweet and absolutely loves being showered with affection! ❤️🐾

Cassie is fighting hard, and we’ll be right beside her, helping her through every step of her recovery.

Please hold this sweet girl in your thoughts and send her lots of love. She needs all the encouragement she can get! 🐾

Cassie is one of 10 kittens ACR just scooped up who needed end-of-day rescue from the same city shelter. Stay tuned to meet the rest!

A small group of Alley Cat Rescue team members travelled to Kruger National Park to (with luck) observe African wildcats and meet with two amazing veterinarians who TNR domestic cats near the park for our African Wildcat Conservation Program (African Wildcat Project)

The wildcats did not disappoint! This video shows at least two different cats, and possibly more.

They are clearly comfortable around people, unphased by bright flashlights and the sounds of car motors. But of course, they are still wild animals.

We got as close as the cats would tolerate. A young female who was out before sundown lounged and hunted insects within 10 feet of us. They are such elegant little creatures.

Many first-time adopters panic when their new friend doesn't instantly warm up to their home. This is perfectly normal, and knowing the 3-3-3 rule is a great way to set expectations on what the process will be like.

In the first 3 days, you can expect your new cat to be overwhelmed and show these signs:

-Hiding under furniture
-Eating less than usual for the first day or two
-Sleeping more than expected
-Being quiet or withdrawn
-Exploring mostly at night

In the first 3 weeks, you can expect them to start getting used to their surroundings and your routines. They might still be a bit overwhelmed, but are much more comfortable than when they originally arrived.

Within the first 3 months, they will feel more at home as the bond with you grows and they learn to trust you (and their environment) more.

Keep in mind every cat is different, and some may warm up quicker or slower than others. Patience is key to giving your new friend a comfortable transition into your home!

Meet Serena!

Serena's journey began after her mom, Gracie, was part of a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) at a community cat colony cared for by Alley Cat Rescue. Soon after her rescue, Gracie gave birth to five beautiful kittens, including Serena!

Serena is a sweet, playful kitten with a whole lot of love to give. She is incredibly gentle, loves affection, and is sure to become your new best friend! She is also a playful little pro who loves chasing the wand toy, racing after balls, and showing off her impressive hunting skills.

Serena is up-to-date on all vaccinations and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

Are you ready to give Serena a loving home?
