🇺🇸 We Remember. We Honor. 🇺🇸
Today, we pause in quiet reflection to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the indomitable spirit shown by first responders on that day.
We also pay tribute to a group of heroes often overlooked—the search-and-rescue dogs who alongside their handlers, tirelessly combed through rubble, helping locate survivors and offering comfort to those in grief. It is estimated that more than 300 specially trained dogs deployed to Ground Zero in the aftermath, working courageously amidst peril and uncertainty .
Among these notable canine heroes were:
Apollo, a German Shepherd from the NYPD, who was the first search-and-rescue dog on site and saved eight lives .
Salty and Roselle, guide dogs who led their owners to safety from the towers and later received the Dickin Medal—often described as the animals’ Victoria Cross .
Trakr, the German Shepherd who found the final survivor of the towers’ collapse, earning a place in history—and even being cloned to continue his legacy .
We honor the bravery of these dogs and the bonds they share with their handlers—a reminder of the extraordinary power of trust, partnership, and hope.
May we always remember and honor the heroes—both human and canine—who showed us what courage and compassion truly mean.
