Last night, we received the heartbreaking news that our team member, Marissa Tanner, passed away unexpectedly on October 1st in a car accident. 💔

Marissa joined our team in July and was a bright light from the start, bringing warmth, positivity, and compassion with her every day.

In her short time with us, she made a lasting impact. Marissa went above and beyond in caring for the animals in our shelter. She took our dogs on extra-long walks, gave extra snuggles to our sick kitties , and even brought Cash home for a few days to give him a much-needed break from the shelter.

She will be deeply missed by our team and by the animals whose lives she touched. 🕊️

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her friends and family during this incredibly difficult time. 🤍

Rest in peace, Marissa. Your love and kindness will live on in every paw print you left behind. 🐾

🐾 It’s time to re-introduce our longest term resident🐾

We need to be honest with you, we’ve dropped the ball when it comes to Wally. This sweet boy has been in our care for over a year, living with a wonderful foster family who’s given him nothing but love and security. But we haven’t done enough to find him the home he truly deserves. That changes today. Wally is now at the shelter where he can hopefully be seen by potential adopters and finally get his furrever home.

Wally came to us in June of last year from a heartbreaking situation. He’s made incredible progress, but he’s still healing and he needs a special kind of home.

✨ About Wally:

Wally is a lovable, goofy dog who absolutely adores women and kids. He can be a quite unsure around men at first, but with patience and kindness, he warms up beautifully. He’s an outdoorsy guy who loves water and adventure, and he tends to do well with smaller dogs. While he’s lived with cats before, we’ve learned he’s better suited to a cat-free home. Wally is (mostly) house-trained, full of personality, and ready to bring joy to the right family.

We thought his adorable face and big heart would have landed him a home long ago. But sometimes the dogs who need us most are the ones who get overlooked.

Let’s change that.

Wally is a good boy with a few quirks, but what dog doesn’t have them? He’s ready for a home that understands him and is willing to give him the time and safety he needs to thrive.

Yesterday we posted a video with the purpose of ensuring the safety of this pup. We took down our video from yesterday out of respect for the owner knowing that the dog is indeed safe.

We were able to have an incredibly productive conversation with his owner, where we both apologized and gained more understanding of each other. We are so thankful to him for reaching out and giving Pugsley the opportunity to keep his name and his history. ❤️

We have a brand new face here at AGC who is ready to meet you! 💕

Becka is a gorgeous 2 year old Husky/German Shepherd mix who was just transferred in last week from PAWS & More. She’s sweet, energetic, and a whole lot of fun.

She loves water, toys, and people. She has previously lived with other dogs, but a meet and greet is always required to ensure your dog/s and her are a good fit and they get off to a good start.

If you’d like to meet Becka or have questions about her, you can reach out to us at (319) 280-7035! Our dog adoption fee is $150 and includes her microchip, spay, up to date vaccinations, heartworm testing, and preventatives. 😁

We are overjoyed! (And maybe a little sad.) Nevaeh, our gorgeous mama, is out the door. 😭

We really were unsure coming into this, Nevaeh is a top dog and shows it. Seeing a higher energy pup show up for the meet and greet, we were almost certain it wasn’t going to go well…we love that we were wrong! They did fantastic together!

Look at these two polite pups ready to take on a new adventure! 🥰

😢 335 Days Without a Home 💔

This is Dawn. For nearly a year, she’s watched as other cats came and went, finding their families, leaving her behind. She’s our longest-term resident, and our hearts break a little more each day she spends waiting.

Dawn isn’t asking for much. She’s a big, gentle girl who loves nothing more than curling up for a nap and snuggling close. She’s sweet, calm, and absolutely adorable — the kind of cat who will fill your home with quiet love and comfort.

She deserves to know what it feels like to be chosen. To have her very own spot on the couch. To finally have her forever family.

🐾 Dawn’s adoption fee is $110, which includes her spay surgery, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations, and preventatives.
📑 You can fill out an adoption questionnaire at agcshelter.org/adopt-1 or stop by to meet her in person Tuesday–Saturday from 1–4pm.
