What the heck is a cat café anyway? And what makes us different from others?
A cat cafe is a themed space where customers can interact with cats while enjoying drinks and snacks. At Karma Kat we have a drink cooler and prepackaged snacks. We also highly encourage people to purchase drinks at locally owned coffee shops, and bring them along while visiting.
*Interaction and relaxation: Visitors can pet, play with, or simply observe the cats in a cozy and comfortable setting. It's a space designed for relaxation and enjoyment of feline companionship. Our focus is on getting permanent forever homes for the cats in our care. Our cats come fully vetted from vaccines, to testing, to being sterilized before adoption.
*Adoption: Most cat cafes partner with local animal shelters and rescue organizations, but we do things quite differently, and we ARE the actual rescue and a nonprofit. This means we do everything from bottlefeeding, pulling cats from other shelters, (particularly ones with medical conditions), holding 2 low cost spay/neuter clinics every month, and we provide free cat food to those in need in our community and so much more.
*We pride ourselves on being a truly inclusive space for all, and we are a certified safe space with a Safe Space Alliance.
Benefits of cat cafes:
*Stress reduction and well-being: Spending time with cats can have a calming and therapeutic effect, helping to reduce stress and improve mood.
*Socialization for cats: Cat cafes provide a positive environment for rescued or stray cats to socialize with humans and become more comfortable around people, potentially increasing their chances of adoption.
*Support for animal welfare: we are huge TNR advocates and we have helped out many many cats from outside of our facility, in our local community.
*Community building: They create a unique space where cat lovers can connect and share their passion for felines. We have THE best community!
We may not be fancy, but we are very proud of the impact we’ve made over the last seven years. Thank you for being along on the journey and for all of your support. 💜
(Pictured below is the little kitten, Ember, that was rescued from a campground and was having seizures. After a vet visit, she tested negative for feline leukemia, and FIV and her seizures were attributed to low blood sugar. Now we are looking for a foster for her.)
