"Owning a pet is a big responsibility. Dog owners are responsible for not only the health and safety of their pet but also protecting people from injury. Most dogs will never bite, but it’s important to remember that any dog, regardless of breed or type, can bite under certain circumstances."

Be BiteSmart https://bit.ly/41RAKSV
It is estimated that 4.5 to 4.7 million people experience injuries and bites from dogs every year. Children are the largest portion of this demographic with approximately 31,000 children between the ages of 5 and 9 experiencing injuries requiring medical intervention.

Bite prevention begins with teaching children how to understand dog communication and appropriate behaviors around dogs. Please do not instruct your child to hug or kiss a dog. These actions are often scary for dogs and is likely the primary reason children are bitten most frequently about the face.

The pollen is the most toxic portion of Lilies and can be ingested while grooming. These flowers should never be brought into a home with cats.

Lilies may be beautiful, but they are extremely toxic to cats — even small exposures can be fatal — so pet owners should keep them out of their homes and gardens.

April is Heartworm Awareness Month ❤️
We recommend year round heartworm preventative for both dogs and cats, call our office if your pet is in need of prevention 843-884-9838

"The fact is that heartworm disease has been diagnosed in all 50 states, and risk factors are impossible to predict. Multiple variables, from climate variations to the presence of wildlife carriers, cause rates of infections to vary dramatically from year to year—even within communities. And because infected mosquitoes can come inside, both outdoor and indoor pets are at risk.
For that reason, the American Heartworm Society recommends that you “think 12:” (1) get your pet tested every 12 months for heartworm and (2) give your pet heartworm preventive 12 months a year."

Our Story

Advanced Animal Care was opened in 2001 by Drs. David & Leslie Steele to provide the Mount Pleasant community with quality veterinary services. To this day, our goal is to provide complete and compassionate medicine, surgery, and preventive care to pets of all ages, while building long lasting friendships with pet owners.

In 2011, Advanced Animal Care of Mount Pleasant became one of a select group of veterinary hospitals to be accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. To be accredited by AAHA, our hospital must demonstrate an exceptional level of medical care and client service. AAHA’s standards cover every aspect of our hospital to assure your satisfaction with the level of care both you and your pet receives.

It is our mission to provide the most comprehensive care available to each of our patients and their people. We strive to provide in-depth client education, helping each client understand all aspects of pet health and preventative care, while emphasizing the importance of the human-animal bond. Our pets are beloved family members, and we are sure to treat them as such. We understand how scary the vet’s office can be, which is why we are all trained using Low Stress Handling techniques. Our goal is to earn your pet’s trust, and make sure they leave our office looking forward to their next visit.
