Finding Joy in Discipline | CUSE Executive Training Update (Confidence Under Higher Standards)
Checking in after another long day of work with CUSE.
Today’s session carried a little more structure and higher expectations than usual—and that’s exactly why I’m encouraged by what I’m seeing from him.
Even as the standards rise, CUSE is continuing to maintain a happy, confident demeanor throughout the work. He’s beginning to understand the process more clearly, and most importantly, he’s starting to genuinely enjoy the challenge.
That’s something I love to see.
Because the goal is never to create a dog that obeys out of pressure or uncertainty. The goal is to build a dog that feels confident within structure and finds fulfillment in working alongside their handler.
Today’s work included:
Continued leash manners under distraction
Voice integration training using the owner’s commands
Recall refinement
Sit repetition and impulse control
Increased expectations on silent stay work
The silent stay in particular requires patience and mental discipline. It asks the dog to settle, think clearly, and remain connected without constant input or correction.
That level of composure takes time to build properly.
But little by little, CUSE is rising to those expectations while still keeping his enthusiasm and willingness intact—and that balance is exactly what I’m after.
Progress like this isn’t rushed.
It’s shaped carefully through consistency, fairness, and daily investment.
And tonight, I’m proud of the direction he’s heading.
