Dr. Teagan is attending the Saratoga Equine Practitioners Conference, taking the opportunity to learn from some of the greatest and most knowledgeable equine practitioners in the field!

Continuing education is an important part of providing the highest quality care for our patients. Every lecture, discussion, and shared experience brings new knowledge and perspectives that can be applied to better serve the horses and owners who trust us with their care.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from leaders in equine veterinary medicine, connect with fellow practitioners, and continue growing so I can bring the very best knowledge and care back to my patients.

For those of you that may have seen, I am now working periodically on a part time basis at Cross Veterinary Clinic!
BUT…I'm still a full time 24/7 equine veterinarian and owner of Doc. T’s Veterinary Services. So to my current and future equine clients and patients, no need to fret I’m still available at all times! I just couldn't resist the Cross Vet team and seeing all the little creatures faces in addition to my large 4-legged ones!!🐶🐱🐴🐎

Dr. Teagan MacDonald is now part of the Cross Veterinary Clinic team! Dr. MacDonald is a graduate of Louisiana State University with several years of experience in both equine and companion animal medicine. When not caring for patients, she loves spending time outdoors, dancing, water sports, snow skiing, and tending to her growing collection of indoor plants. Dr. MacDonald looks forward to meeting you and your pets!

Vaccinations are one of the most important parts of preventive health care for horses. They help protect against serious — and often life-threatening — diseases that can spread through insects, the environment, or contact with other horses. Even healthy horses with limited travel can be at risk. Spring is an ideal time to review vaccine schedules and schedule annual wellness exams before mosquito season and increased travel begin.

It's MYTHBUSTER time! 🔎

The core vaccinations for every horse, regardless of their travel status, include Rabies, Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), Western Equine Encephalitis (WEE), West Nile Virus (WNV), and Tetanus.

Unfortunately, mosquitoes, bacteria, and rabid animals do not discriminate when it comes to infecting horses. Whether a horse is in a freshly bedded stall, wide open pasture, or on show grounds, mosquitoes can potentially infect your horse with life threatening diseases such as EEE, WEE, and/or WNV.

Tetanus is a common clostridial bacteria present in the dirt and can infect a horse who has never left its home just the same as a horse who shows every weekend if it doesn't have proper vaccine status.

Rabies is a 100% fatal disease once clinical signs are present and is easily transmissible to humans and other animals both at home and on the trails.

It's also important to note that different regions in the U.S. may have additional "core" recommendations so be sure to ask your veterinarian what is best for your horse!
