🐾 “Possessive Over Toys or Food”
Does your dog give you the side-eye if you go near their bone?
👀 “Mine!” isn’t cute when it turns into growling.
We help you teach sharing (yes, it works) and prevent resource guarding from escalating.

🐾 “Too Friendly (aka Bulldozing Strangers)”
🥰 Love a social pup? Us too.
But if your dog is greeting guests like a linebacker, it’s time for boundaries.
We coach YOU on how to teach calm confidence instead of chaos.

🐾 “Potty Problems”
Rug stains. Crate accidents. That one time on your bed…
🙃 House training is a process, and yelling doesn’t speed it up.
We train YOU to notice the signals, set routines, and avoid the mess.

🐾 “The Couch is Now Their Throne”
👑 Do they rule the furniture with an iron paw?
We’re not saying your dog needs to be the boss of nothing — but at Bright Dog, we teach you how to take the remote back (metaphorically).

🐾 “Chewing Like a Chainsaw”
Shoes, walls, wires, your will to live…
🧠 Chewing is communication — and Bright Dog helps you translate.
We train you to train them to chew the right things (yes, they exist).

🐾 “The Barking Never Stops”
🚨 Someone walked by the house. Again. And again.
📢 Dog: “INTRUDER!”
Me: “It’s literally just the mailman…”
At Bright Dog, we help owners set boundaries with structure and timing, not threats.

🐾 “Biting Everything That Moves (Or Doesn’t)”
That cute little piranha phase? Yeah, it’s not just teething.
🦷 Puppy biting is normal — but it needs direction.
📚 We train YOU to read the room, redirect the teeth, and save your ankles.

🐾 “The Pulling Is Real”
Ever feel like your arm’s in a full-body CrossFit workout?
🐕💪 Your dog isn’t walking you — you're just in denial.
🧠 Learn leash skills the Bright Dog way: calm, consistent, and not dependent on gadgets that zap.

🐾 “Crate? More Like Scream Box”
You: “Time for bed!”
Your dog: “I WILL PROTEST THIS UNJUST CAGE WITH MY VOICE!”
We teach YOU how to make the crate a safe space, not a punishment.

🐾 “Jumping Like It’s a Sport”
🏅Your dog’s vertical leap is impressive — if you're training for the Puppy Olympics.
🚫 Jumping on guests, strangers, or your grandma? Not so much.
👩🏫 At Bright Dog, we help you create calm, polite greetings using structure, not shouting.

🐾 “My Dog Only Listens When I Have a Treat”
🎤 Cue dramatic music — "He can sit… but only if I’m holding a slice of ham like a bribe."
💡 At Bright Dog, we teach you how to fade the treat so your pup listens because of trust and repetition, not cold cuts.
📌 Want a dog who listens with or without snacks? We got you.

“I don’t have time for training.”
⏳ You know what takes more time than training?
Chasing your dog around the neighborhood in your pajamas at 6am.
🐶💨 “Freedom is my middle name!”
✅ Training doesn’t have to take hours a day—it just takes the right guidance. Bright Dog shows YOU how to work smarter, not harder, with clear steps, fast results, and support every step of the way.

My name is Melissa and I have been in the dog training world for over 10 years. My dog training passion started in college when I volunteered at an organization that helped “un-train” service dogs and police dogs to fit into a family setting. From there I studied different dog training techniques from a variety of sources and mentors. I formulated all of the knowledge together to form “Bright Dog”.
At Bright Dog, we are an in home, private or group class that teaches and trains with the Positive Reinforcement training method known as “click and treat”. You would be surprised at what you can get your dog to do for a treat! Classes can be individual or groups (I always suggest the groups unless your pup has a hard time making friends) and they meet once a week for 4-5 weeks (depending on the number of dogs and the training barriers we may run into). Below is a breakdown of the specific classes we offer:
Puppy/ Beginner Class: sit, stay, down, leave it, drop it, a come when call, and an emergency call and leash walking. We also work on the behavioral problems that are more common in puppies such as; chewing, biting, barking, dominance and the roll you play in it, jumping, and just about anything else under the sun.
Intermediate Class: front, front with distractions, heel, stay with distractions, “park it”, wait, accepting a friendly stranger and walking in public. If we have time we will also learn….spin, roll over and play dead, all in multiple training environments. (yay field trips!!)
Advanced Class: This class is all about preparing your dog to take the Canine Good Citizen Test (the first step to qualify your pup to be a therapy dog or a hospital therapy dog) Those particular training items are: Accepting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting, allowing basic grooming procedures, walking on a loose lead, walking through a crowd, sitting/ laying down on command and staying in place, coming when called, reacting appropriately to another dog, reacting appropriately to distractions and calmly enduring supervised separation from the owner.
I also assess and provide solutions to behavioral issues that some dogs experience in the home such as: jumping, separation anxiety, mouthing/ nipping and biting, mounting/ ma********on, potty training, food guarding, begging, rough play, digging, destructive chewing, aggression, introduction into a new home, introduction of a new pet or family member… an anything else you can throw at me.
Remember- most dogs are very quick to learn because all most dogs want is to make you happy. All it takes is a few treats, a little time and effort and sooner than you’ll realize, you and your pup will be communicating effectively!
