Just heard my best advice ever on dog training. “First thing to know before successfully training a dog is you must be smarter than the dog”

I think we all know a few that this applies to.

4yo Grade Male

Was looking for something to hunt that would go a little deeper. This is not the dog. He has the range of my feist and just about the same mouth. Someone looking for a good meat dog that has a good squirrel population this would be a perfect fit.

Pros- Hunts well with company, tone broke, trash broke, will not make a sound in the kennel, Kid friendly.

Cons are he will mark when road hunting, not a big mouth.

Easton got his first deer! No woods pictures because this guy decided to bring about 4in of rain behind him. One of the best/most miserable deer drags I’ve ever made. 500yds to the truck uphill.

Had to reward Ike for his comp hunt. He was getting a little angry when we couldn’t shoot any out to him. Today was a good reminder to him that even a boom stick doesn’t guarantee a squirrel. Not pictured are about 8 very fast squirrels we involuntarily let live.

Turner Up Monkey is now squirrel champion after winning her first 3 hunts to ever enter! Arkansas Squirrel Hunters Association

Warrior Hunt 2024! Weather was rough, squirrel movement was worse, but the food was great. Thanks again for the invite. Always a pleasure to spend time with veterans and local Leo’s! Corps guys weren’t too bad either.

A good reminder even for a seasoned dog. You can’t beat time in the woods. Ike couldn’t have looked worse for a few hunts. Loose on a tree, cold tracking and just treeing bad trees. I took a step back at what I was doing with him. Thought I had isolated the handler issue. That still wasn’t working. My frustration finally boiled over and I decided I was going to just run him until his legs fell off. (Previously I’d hunt him every few days). I hunted him am and pm Saturday and Sunday for hours. Today I turned him lose for our normal after school hunt. We made 12 trees and looked at 10 squirrels right up to dark. He didn’t leave a single tree with the exception of having 2 in one tree and the second squirrel timbering out, which he re-treed and we got. I’ve said it hundreds of times to potential clients that I don’t train dogs I simply give them time in the woods to do what they do naturally. A point I sometimes forget when working with my finished dogs. They need just as much time as a started pup to look their best and keep away bad habits.
