Dr. Kera Hemstreet has joined our Mountain Island team and is looking forward to meeting you and your pets!
Dr. Hemstreet is a NC native with a passion for animal welfare and is a strong believer in the One Health Principle that human, animal, and environmental health are tightly interconnected.

Her professional interests include dentistry, dermatology, and preventive medicine, but most of all, she enjoys building relationships with both her clients and their furry companions!

In her free time, Dr. Hemstreet and her husband, Michael, love spending time with their son exploring Charlotte with their silly Basset hound, Louie. She enjoys yoga, reading, and her most guilty pleasure - reality tv shows. She is excited to serve the Mountain Island community and looks forward to making a positive impact on the lives of pets and their families.

Happy vet tech&vet assistant week!!!

During the third week of October the veterinary community takes a moment to recognize our veterinary technicians and assistants.
You witness their skills and compassion in the exam rooms, but what happens behind the scenes is equally, if not more incredible. Our technicians and assistants know what everyone needs at all times. They know that when Spot comes in for his annual he prefers a peanut butter snack, his head to be pat and sweet nothings to be whispered in his ear while his blood sample is drawn from his back leg. They also know that the doctor is going to want to recheck that ear infection he had a few weeks ago so they’re already collecting, setting up and analyzing a sample under the microscope. They know what their patient’s blood pressure range should be under anesthesia depending on which drugs have been administered and they know what the doctor is going to ask for if it becomes too high/low. They know when their coworker needs an extra set of hands or an understanding nod. They know what treatment plan the doctor is going to recommend before the words are ever uttered. They know how nervous you are to drop your pet off for surgery and how much they mean to you so they treat them as if they’re their own. They’re calling the lab because they know you’re anxious for the results and they are too. They know which settings to adjust on the x-ray machine because the image is too dark. They know how to calculate the dose of sedatives for a chill 8 year old Great Dane as well as a 6 month old chihuahua that’s high on life. They know when to take their time and when time is of the essence. They know all of these things and so SO so much more, but one thing we want to make sure they don’t forget is how incredible we think they are.

September celebrations!

The school year is back in full swing, pumpkin flavored everything is re-appearing on menu boards and we're keeping our fingers crossed for cooler temps around the corner! While we patiently (or impatiently) await sweater weather...September will keep us busy celebrating this wildly talented crew!
To our September team members, we appreciate all of the joy, compassion and incredible skills you bring to our Whole Pet community. We hope you take the time to celebrate your awesomeness this month!

Ryker wears his eye protection and so should you! Laser therapy is the duct tape and windex secret of veterinary medicine. What can it help fix/heal? Just about anything! Okay maybe it doesn’t fix EVERYTHING, if your pet needs a foreign body removed, we’re still going to have to remove it, but we’ll use the laser post-op! It helps to kickstart the healing of wounds/surgical incisions, reduce inflammation just about anywhere (helping with pain and healing), relaxes muscles and boosts self esteem with the required stylish safety goggles (probably). Laser therapy is offered at all of our locations as part of our rehab services, Ryker hangs out with our Mountain Island crew for his sessions. Our Mountain Island office is also home to our underwater treadmill and several other rehab offerings! Treating our patients in the exam room with their families is one of our favorite things we do at Whole Pet. Occasionally we need to borrow them for a moment for additional diagnostics, but fear not, they're receiving all the snuggles and sweet talking they can take.
