Another great lesson with this 3 month old rescued Retriever/Pointer! Look at that adorable face on Crissy. She’s as smart as she is sweet. Today we reviewed Place with us taking turns knocking on the door and coming in and out of the house repeatedly. Then we took her bed outside and worked her around countless distractions. We made a video showing how to use the tethering technique which I’ll post later. I’ve posted other videos on this before.

We also taught Crissy proper threshold manners, how to walk calmly on a loose leash (Heel) and Sit/Stay. She did great with everything and gots some playtime after our lesson. Of course I gave her hugs and kisses for all of her fans before I left.

Getting some love from my little buddy Poppy! This adorable Labradoodle puppy is super sweet. Our focus for this week’s lesson was on Poppy staying calm and in Place when guests arrive. This is imperative, especially with a baby on the way which will result in lots of guests coming over. Poppy did great as always. I’m very proud of her tremendous progress.

Another great lesson with my handsome buddy Jake! Just look at the smile on this happy Bernese Mountain Dog. He is such a loving and energetic dog who sometimes forgets how big he is. To help with his energy around guests we had the client’s neighbor come over. She’s a very sweet woman. Even though it was hard for her to follow the rules, she was very helpful. She didn’t pet Jake until I gave her permission.

We practiced several scenarios where we rang the bell and came in/out repeatedly. We even had the clients step outside with us. It was a very productive lesson. And they even gave me 2 jars of homemade Jam! Our next lesson will be outside with even more distractions.

Here’s a short video of Parker (Springer Spaniel) and Charlie (Cocker Spaniel/mix) learning to get along at Ferran Park. Both of these dogs are highly reactive towards other dogs (especially males). This was the very first time these dogs met. One of my clients is filming on my phone and you can hear them talking about how shocked they are as they watch on!

You saw Parker doing a pack walk with Peter in a previous video yesterday so he was somewhat used to being made to walk next to another dog. This was Charlie’s first experience being made to walk with another dog. He tried to attack Parker at first, but quickly realized that I would not allow that kind of behavior. This video is about 3-4 minutes into their walk. It is imperative that you lead the dogs or a fight can break out very quickly with dogs like this.

NOTE: I do NOT recommend strange dog interactions unless you can control both dogs and have full cooperation from everyone involved. If you need to get two dogs together, do a pack walk in a neutral site like I’m doing here.

We took my little buddy Peter back to Lowe’s today for another great lesson! He said a scratch behind the ears is good to help him overcome just how noisy it was there today. Those who have followed Peter’s story know that he was abused and had a rough start to life. He was rescued by a very sweet woman though and is learning to relax.

We reviewed all of his commands all over the store and he did great. We had a nice chat with one of the workers there and she was very pleased with how well he did while we talked. We also had a customer come over and commented on how well behaved Peter was. She said he needed to go to her neighborhood and show the dogs there how to behave. Lol

Another great lesson with my little buddy Poppy! This adorable Labradoodle puppy is getting so big. Today we reviewed Place outside around various distractions. We also reviewed Heel, Sit, and Stay before teaching her the Down command. Poppy did great with everything as usual.

We saw one of my former clients while we were out training, which is always a treat to get an update on how their dogs are doing. Of course I gave Poppy a big hug and a kiss for all of her fans before leaving to train other dogs.

Welcome my new little buddy Jake to the ABC Pack! This handsome 140lb Bernese Mountain Dog is a sweet and gentle giant. This is such a fun and energetic breed, and because of his size, calmness and self-control are imperative. We taught Jake the Place command which is the most useful of the obedience commands. He did great and laid down calmly on his bed.

Then we taught him how to walk calmly on a loose leash. We will had more distractions to Place next week and move the leash walking into a formal Heel outside. Maybe we’ll take a video for everyone. Of course he got hugs and playtime after the lesson for being so good.
