Hi Maggie!

Everyone knows I looove a derpy lab puppy💜 Maggie’s brain consists of:

1.) Happiness
2.) SMELLS
3.) Happiness
4.) FRIENDS

Although we adore Maggie’s happy-go-lucky attitude, she needs to learn how to concentrate all of that enthusiasm instead of it exploding everywhere😆

Through breed-specific games and patterned obedience exercises, Maggie is developing listening and impulse control skills… while keeping allll her happiness intact. Just, reining it in a bit🥰

Field trip to Sugarloaf Diving Dogs for Brooks and Goosey🥰

Not only is swimming fantastic exercise for puppies, guided group swim sessions build:

💙Self-Confidence and Overall Optimism (which in turn lessens fear-based problems, like reactivity!)

💙Trust and sense of teamwork with Humans (Notice how I’m guiding them down the ramp with just a gentle touch? Their quick and joyful response to tactile guidance is a reflection of leash skills!)

💙Healthy Stress Tolerance (overcoming challenges creates emotional resilient and patient adult dogs!)

Both pups did soooo good. I see some dock divers in your future!

In my opinion, everything that makes a “go anywhere, do anything” dog falls into two categories of training:

1️⃣ Free Behavior
•Choices that the dog makes without specific direction from us

Ex: Observing the environment around them calmly and walking close to us, without needing “Heel” or “Leave It”.

✳️We build good Free Behavior by using our marker words, telling our dogs “Yes” (I like that! I’ll pay you for it!) or “No” (I don’t like that. I’ll help you fix it.)

2️⃣ Trained Skills (“obedience”)
•Behaviors that the dog preforms based on Audible, Visual, or Tactile cues from us

Ex: instructing the dog verbally to “Place”, giving the leash (tactile) signal to “Heel”, or visual (hand signal) cue to “Down”

✳️We build Trained Skills through structured training sessions and games that emphasize the performance of skills!

‼️Without a balance of both categories…

❌Strong in Free Behavior, but low on Trained Skills? Your dog might not bark and lunge on walks, but they don’t know how to hold a “Down” position while you walk away.

❌Strong in Trained Skills, but weak in Free Behavior? You might find yourself needing to micromanage your dog with constant commands, because they don’t know how to make good decisions on their own.

🤎Waylon here is one of my favorite go anywhere buddies. At 1 year old and over 100lbs, he’s a rockstar in both categories! Outings with him are always a mix of casual Free Behavior and using Trained Skills.

Some questions I’ve been HAPPY to answer about In-Home Training Camps and Vacation Boarding:

• Can you send me a picture of where my dog will be sleeping?

• What is your system for waste removal and yard cleaning?

• Will my dog be interacting with other dogs? If so, how do you decide who interacts together?

• How much “house time” will my dog get outside of their designated space?

• Will my dog get field trips and off-property activities during their stay?

I strive to give everybody ample opportunities for both exercise and rest, while maintaining clean spaces and a safe environment.
